A new Annual Passholder-exclusive Magic Shot featuring WALL-E and EVE will be available during V.I.PASSHOLDER Days at Disney’s Animal Kingdom next month.

The Magic Shot will be available with Photopass photographers by Discovery River near the Tree of Life from 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. from May 31 through June 30. In the photo, one guest will be holding the boot with a plant from “WALL-E,” while the two robots stand next to them.

Also during V.I.PASSHOLDER Days, Passholders visiting EPCOT will be able to enjoy an exclusive space at The Land Pavilion and pick up the new Figment Annual Passholder magnet.

V.I.PASSHOLDER Nights was a free after hours event previously held at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

Walt Disney World Annual Pass Program

Walt Disney World Annual Passes were sold continuously from September 1982 until March 2020. Since then, the price had increased dramatically, multiple tiers were introduced with various blackout dates and benefits to match. At times, the resort even encouraged guests to become Passholders through advertising at the parks, around Central Florida, and through benefits like discounts on merchandise and food.

Of course, at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, that all changed. While Walt Disney World did not go the route of Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Resort by canceling every Annual Pass and issuing refunds, nor did they resume sales immediately as the Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai resorts did upon reopening. Passes remained valid and renewable after the COVID-19 closure concluded in July 2020, although new sales were halted almost immediately upon reopening. At the time, Disney assured guests it was a “temporary” measure due to capacity restrictions at Walt Disney World.

In August 2021, Walt Disney World announced an overhaul of their pass system, replacing the four tiers introduced in 2015 with a more confusing character-based system. New passes then went on sale in September 2021, and remained on sale for nearly three months before being suspended in late November. The two middle tiers were briefly on sale last June for a single day before halting again. All four Walt Disney World Annual Passes went on sale again this year.

Beginning in April 2023, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders can visit the theme parks after 2:00 p.m. on most days without a park pass reservation. This perk does not include Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays, when a reservation will still be required.

It was recently announced that beginning next year, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders would no longer need park pass reservations for select “good-to-go” dates.

Walt Disney World has released new details on benefits for Annual Passholders this summer!

The new Figment Passholder magnet will be available for pickup at Creations Shop in EPCOT from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. starting May 31 through June 30 while supplies last. There will not be a virtual queue.

INCREASED MERCH AND FOOD DISCOUNTS

From May 31 through June 30, 2023, the Annual Passholder merchandise discount at select Disney-owned and -operated merchandise locations across Walt Disney World Resort will temporarily increase from 20% to 30%. Plus, during this same time, Annual Passholders can enjoy an increase from 10% to 20% on discounts for food and nonalcoholic beverages at select locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

Walt Disney World Annual Passholders will receive a 10% increase in discounts for select dining and merchandise purchases from May 31 to June 30, 2023.

Annual Passholder Discount Increasing this Summer

Disney announced that the Annual Passholder merchandise discount at select Disney owned and operated shops and locations across Walt Disney World Resort will temporarily increase from 20% to 30%. This amounts to a 10% increase in in merchandise discounts.

In addition, Annual Passholders will be able to enjoy an increase from 10% to 20% discount for food and nonalcoholic beverages at select locations throughout Walt Disney World Resort.

During V.I.PASSHOLDER Days in June at Walt Disney World Resort, a temporary Passholder lounge will open at The Land Pavilion of EPCOT.

Passholder Offerings at Sunshine Seasons

“Cool off and take a break at this reserved space just for Passholders,” Disney states.

Where and When:

• Location: The Land Pavilion
• Dates: May 31 through June 30, 2023
• Times: Park open to Park close

The following special treats will also be available at Sunshine Seasons next month:

• A Spark of Grape Shake
  Grape, guava, passionfruit, orange and lime
• Raspberry “Lemonade” Tart
  Shortbread tart filled with lemon mousse, raspberry jam and raspberry mousse

The new Figment Annual Passholder magnet will also be available at EPCOT during this time.

V.I.PASSHOLDER Nights was a free after hours event previously held at Magic Kingdom and EPCOT.

Walt Disney World Annual Passes were sold continuously from September 1982 until March 2020. Since then, the price had increased dramatically, multiple tiers were introduced with various blackout dates and benefits to match. At times, the resort even encouraged guests to become Passholders through advertising at the parks, around Central Florida, and through benefits like discounts on merchandise and food.

Of course, at the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, that all changed. While Walt Disney World did not go the route of Disneyland and Tokyo Disney Resort by canceling every Annual Pass and issuing refunds, nor did they resume sales immediately as the Paris, Hong Kong, and Shanghai resorts did upon reopening. Passes remained valid and renewable after the COVID-19 closure concluded in July 2020, although new sales were halted almost immediately upon reopening. At the time, Disney assured guests it was a “temporary” measure due to capacity restrictions at Walt Disney World.

In August 2021, Walt Disney World announced an overhaul of their pass system, replacing the four tiers introduced in 2015 with a more confusing character-based system. New passes then went on sale in September 2021, and remained on sale for nearly three months before being suspended in late November. The two middle tiers were briefly on sale last June for a single day before halting again. All four Walt Disney World Annual Passes went on sale again this year.

Beginning in April 2023, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders can visit the theme parks after 2:00 p.m. on most days without a park pass reservation. This perk does not include Magic Kingdom on Saturdays and Sundays, when a reservation will still be required.

It was recently announced that beginning next year, Walt Disney World Annual Passholders would no longer need park pass reservations for select “good-to-go” dates.

The Figment Annual Passholder Magnet will be available at EPCOT from May 31 to June 30 while supplies last. There will be no virtual queue.

The Figment Annual Passholder Magnet will be available to passholders at EPCOT from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. beginning next week on May 31, and continuing until June 30 or while supplies last. There will be no virtual queue for picking up this magnet.

Disney previously teased the release of the Figment magnet using a hand painted sign, created by the imagination dragon himself.

A Figment Annual Passholder magnet was also previously released for the EPCOT International Festival of the Arts in 2019. But the look of the Walt Disney World Annual Pass program has since been re-designed, an update that extends to the magnets. They are now D-shaped, with a character in the center and “Walt Disney World Annual Passholder” around the edges.

Beginning this summer, Walt Disney World Cast Members will have access to two exclusive digital perks.

Digital Perks for Cast Members

Walt Disney World Cast Members will soon be able to enjoy two new digital extras. They will receive a special Mickey Mouse Club greeting when tapping in at theme park entrances. In addition, they will be able to download new, Cast Member-exclusive MagicMobile pass styles to their digital wallet via the My Disney Experience app.

These new offerings are a way for Disney to show appreciation for its Cast Members and make their experience at the parks feel more magical.

Park Entry Musical Extra

Walt Disney World Cast Members will soon be greeted with a special Disney song when they enter the theme parks. The greeting will play when they tap their MagicBand+, Disney MagicMobile pass, Main Entrance Pass or Cast Self Admission linked to their Cast Admission through the My Disney Experience app.

Cast-Exclusive Disney MagicMobile Pass Styles

Cast Members will also have access to four exclusive MagicMobile pass styles. Shown in the image above, the different designs are reminiscent of several iconic or popular Disney themes.

The first design features Disney100 Years of Wonder, the second is inspired by the Cast Member nametag and reads “Cast Life,” the third has an illustration of the iconic “Partners” statue at Magic Kingdom, featuring Walt Disney and Mickey Mouse holding hands, and the fourth showcases imagery from TRON Lightcycle / Run.

How to Access

For Cast Members to access these pass styles, they need to ensure their Cast Admission is linked to their Disney account. Once this is completed, they can visit the feature menu using the hamburger menu icon in the My Disney Experience app. Then, they’ll head to the Disney MagicMobile card to begin setting up a special Disney MagicMobile pass.

Cast Members may choose from a variety of styles then add it to an Apple Wallet on an iPhone or Apple Watch, or to a Google Wallet on an Android device. After finishing this step, the new MagicMobile pass style should appear as an option for tapping into any of the parks at a touchpoint in Walt Disney World.

Cast Members may use the Disney MagicMobile service to enter the theme parks, link their Disney PhotoPass images to their account, check in at virtual queue attractions including Guardians of the Galaxy: Cosmic Rewind and Tron: Lightcycle / Run, and use Lightning Lane reservations. Cast Members may also charge food and merchandise purchases to a payment card on file at a Disney Resort hotel room if they are opting to stay on-site.

Universal Orlando Resort security is testing new Xtract One metal detectors with Team Members today.

The new metal detectors are set up at the Team Member security entrance in the Universal Orlando Resort parking garages. Many security and management Team Members were on site, and members of the security team were walking through the two columns to test the system.

The set of detectors appears to be Xtract One’s SmartGateway or SafeGateway, similar systems that use AI to scan for weapons and other prohibited items. Here is the description of SmartGateway from Xtract One’s website:

SmartGateway delivers fast, reliable, and accurate patron screening for high throughput venues, replacing intimidating metal detectors. This solution unobtrusively scans patrons for guns, knives, and other prohibited items as they enter your facility, using AI-powered sensors to detect threats without invading the sense of privacy and comfort of your patrons. The system is ideal for stadiums and other ticketed venues that need to get thousands of people in quickly, safely, and in alignment with security standards requirements.

A SmartGateway lane can screen up to 2,400 guests per hour. They are “equipped with integrated traffic flow pacing features including customizable displays, traffic lights and audio signals” and reduce time spent in security lines 2-7 times.

SmartGateway has displays on the columns, while SafeGateway sends information to an external kiosk.

Back in December 2020, Universal Orlando Resort tested Evolv contactless security scanners, but these were never permanently installed at the resort.

Xtract One’s scanners appear similar to the Evolv scanners, so guests won’t need to stop or put their bags down when walking through. Guests with large metal objects like umbrellas may need to hold them out in front of them as they walk through the scanners.

Evolv security scanners are now widely used at Walt Disney World Resort, including at theme parks and Disney Springs.
