Heads Up — A Disney World After Hours Event Finally Returns TONIGHT

Have you ever been to a Disney World after hours event?

Typhoon Lagoon

After Hours events are separate-ticketed events that give you a chance to visit the parks after closing, meaning you’ll have to deal with fewer crowds than during a normal day at the park AND you’ll be able to ride attractions with short waits. Sometimes, though, the parties are themed (like Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party) and those are the most fun of all. So here’s a reminder that a themed After Hours event is returning to Disney World TONIGHT.

After refurbishment, Disney World’s Typhoon Lagoon water park reopened earlier this year. With its reopening, Disney confirmed that a special after hours event called H2O Glow would happen on select nights through the summer. Well, May 20th is the first night this year for the first H20 Glow After Hours event.

Jessie and Woody at H20 Glow in 2018

H2O Glow lets guests spend three hours in Typhoon Lagoon AFTER the park has closed to the public. The party features special lighting throughout the park, a DJ dance party, character meet and greets, special exclusive snacks, and more. Partygoers can also enjoy attractions throughout Typhoon Lagoon with lower wait times since tickets for the event are limited. These returned in 2022 after being unavailable since the 2020 closures, but we’re glad to see this offering back in 2023.

Banana Fosters Sundae at H20 Glow

Those with a party ticket even get some snacks FOR FREE, including some ice cream treats, popcorn, and select fountain beverages.

H2O Glow

Tickets for tonight’s party are still available, so if you’re looking for something fun and different to do in Disney World, check it out. Tickets are $75 per adult and $70 per child — you can buy tickets through the Disney World website, although some may be available at Typhoon Lagoon on the day (depending on if the event has sold out or not, as it is limited). The parties run on certain nights through September 2nd, 2023.

We’ll be sure to keep you updated on other events in Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more.

Figment Little Golden Book Debuting in January 2024

Figment, the star of the Journey Into Imagination attraction and de facto mascot of EPCOT, will appear in a Little Golden Book for the first time. Originally reported by Mousesteps, this new publication will become available in January next year, 2024, and feature the “One Little Spark” lyrics penned by the Sherman Brothers.

Both digital Kindle and physical hardcover copies will are currently available for pre-order and priced at $5.99. The cover art has not been released yet.

little golden book disney parks collection

While this may be a first for Figment, there have been Little Golden Books related to Disney attractions before, including this $29.95 box set from May 2022, with entries based on the Jungle Cruise, Haunted Mansion, Space Mountain, Orange Bird, and “it’s a small world.” Each of them are also sold individually, at the same price as the new Figment book. A set of 12 Little Golden Books commemorating the 100th anniversary of Disney as a company was also released in December last year.

40 Years of Sparks

the dreamfinder and figment from the original ride

Figment has been a staple of EPCOT since 1983, cherished and beloved by guests from past and present. Imagineers Tony Baxter and Steve Kirk led the development of a new, elaborate, adventurous dark ride for all ages at a time in which many visitors felt the park was lacking an experience children could appreciate as much as adults. Journey Into Imagination was born, and a little purple dragon became the central figure, along with the mystical Dreamfinder, who would help riders learn to explore and appreciate the limitless power and potential of their own creative minds.

Our indigo friend has had a rough go of it over the years, enduring three immensely different iterations of the ride to varying degrees of success, failure, love, and pure, loathsome hatred. Generally, the public regards the original version as overwhelmingly superior, the second as one of the worst attractions of all time, with the third and current design somewhere in between. Our full and in-depth Figment history is available here, in honor of Imagination’s 40th anniversary.

As the major overhaul of EPCOT began, it was rumored that a new attraction in the space would feature characters from Pixar’s “Inside Out” alongside Figment, who was featured briefly in an Easter egg in the film; however, no ride change was ever announced. Joy from “Inside Out” does now meet guests in ImageWorks.

While Figment’s home attraction continues to see its popularity wane and fade over time, the character continues to expand in popularity and presence across EPCOT and general media. In September 2022, Deadline broke the news that Disney is developing a movie based on Figment. The feature film will be produced by Seth Rogen’s Point Grey Pictures, with Dan Hernandez and Benji Samit (“Pokémon Detective Pikachu”) serving as writers.

Are you excited for this upcoming book, and a chance to introduce an iconic mascot to a new generation of young readers? Let us know in the comments.

Disneyland’s ‘Fantasmic!’ on Hiatus Through at Least Labor Day

The Disneyland Resort has announced that they have decided to put its “Fantasmic!” show on hiatus through at least Labor Day, 2023.

They’ve stated that they are evaluating the show and exploring opportunities to add “new magic and touches” for guests.

Those guests who had a previously-booked a “Fantasmic!” Dining Package will be notified of the hiatus. More information will be coming soon on alternate experiences for guests this summer.

Last month during the show, the Maleficent dragon caught fire and was completely engulfed in flames, substantially damaging the set piece.

Let’s Watch the Disney Enchantment Fireworks Spectacular Over Dessert

It’s a busy weekend for me, and while I don’t have a lot of time available, I still want to make an effort to bring the family together and watch something that puts a smile on everyone’s face. With busy schedules to juggle this week, it seemed like the perfect time to throw our own dessert party; and what better entertainment to enjoy a dessert party with than a Magic Kingdom’s Fireworks Spectacular?

Before we get to the entertainment. Here are a few of my very favorite Disney dessert recipes that might give you inspiration. I am planning on making mine ahead of time and freezing some so that we can have variety at our dessert party without having food go to waste. That is if I don’t test too many of them while baking, you know, for quality control purposes.

D23 Mickey Macarons Recipe

Macarons are an essential part of any dessert party. You can make them in a variety of flavors, and they always feel a bit more special than your average cookie. You can find the recipe for these D23 Mickey Macarons here.

Club 33’s Pumpkin Beignets

Even though it is spring in the USA, we are currently enjoying the cooler temps of Autumn (Fall) down under in Australia, so this recipe for Club 33’s Pumpkin Beignets is going on my list to make today as well.

Florentine Cookies From Biergarten in Epcot At Walt Disney World

I love these Florentine Cookies from EPCOT though I do make a little change to the recipe. For my son, who has a nut allergy, I like to substitute almonds with a coconut mixture, similar to what you find on a coconut slice, like this.

Plant-based Lavender Donuts from Disney’s Contemporary Resort

This is a newer recipe that D23 has shared, and this will be my first attempt at making them. It’s the plant-based Lavender Donuts from Disney’s Contemporary Resort. I love adding lavender to desserts; there is an elegance in the taste that sets them apart from the rest.

The Main Event: Disney Enchantment Fireworks!

Once you’ve managed to get your family together, enjoy your special treats in front of this special presentation of Disney Enchantment Fireworks. Enjoy!
