While we often lament the maintenance issues at Walt Disney World, the Disneyland Resort faces plenty of its own issues as well. During our latest ride on the Disneyland Monorail, we found that the beloved attraction is in rough shape, with even some sections being held together by duct tape. Let’s take a closer look.
Disneyland Monorail in Rough Shape
Monorail Orange was in especially rough shape when we last checked in. Even from several feet away from it, we were able to see considerable grime and noticeable wear and tear next to the doors.
Visible scratches, scuffs, and other imperfections on the exterior of this section became even more apparent and shocking when we took a closer look.
The exterior of this cabin was in especially poor condition with countless deep scrapes and sections where the black scuffs stand out on the exterior that is otherwise white in color.
A form of tape appears to hold several sections of the Disneyland Monorail’s exterior together.
When we took a closer peek at the back car, we noticed that duct tape is in fact holding those sections in place as the metallic silver tape clearly stands out against the cabin’s white exterior paint.
Monorail Blue was in slightly better condition than Monorail Orange, however, it wasn’t without its own imperfections. Just a few months ago, Monorail Blue underwent a refurbishment to prepare for the 100th anniversary of the Walt Disney Company. You may recall the recently debuted 100th anniversary monorail wrap that still covers Monorail Blue.
More imperfections are visible where the two doors meet on this section of Monorail Blue’s exterior. Toward the bottom of the door on the left, possible bubbling in the newly installed wrap is also noticeable.
The interior of this particular cabin was filthy with dust and dirt visibly coating some portions. There is no evidence that it recently received a deep cleaning or even a quick one for that matter.
Inside each of the Disneyland Monorail cabins, the unfortunate state of the beloved attraction is apparent. Each cabin is currently without any audio features and this particular section is visibly and considerably scratched.
The beloved Disneyland Monorail debuted in 1959 as a first-of-its-kind attraction, four years after Disneyland opened. Originally a sightseeing ride, the attraction shifted to functioning as a true transportation option for guests in 1961. Today, the Disneyland Monorail serves as the “highway in the sky” for Disneyland Resort guests of all ages. The system is comprised of a 13 minutes long, 2.5-mile round trip that welcomes guests at two different stations and takes them along for unique views of Tomorrowland, Fantasyland, Grizzly Peak, and more.
In late March, Heritage Auctions hosted a two-day-long Disney auction that offered fans the chance to take home pieces of Disney memorabilia including a cabin from the Walt Disney World Monorail and a Skyway Park attraction vehicle from Disneyland.
