Construction crews have been restoring and repainting rockwork on the Tiana’s Bayou Adventure façade in Magic Kingdom.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Flume
At the lowest part of the attraction, work continues around the ride’s flume. Green tubes are around the edge of the peninsula in the curve of the flume.
Crew members were working in the tunnel on the left, beneath the Frontierland bridge.
It looks like they were working on the rocky façade, although we couldn’t see exactly what they were doing.
Fresh concrete is drying on the outer edge of the flume, where some old concrete was chipped away.
The drying concrete is gray and buckets hold up caution tape around it.
Near the right tunnel, rockwork was destroyed, reconstructed, and painted to theoretically look more like a bayou.
Gray-brown rocks now seem to stick out of the red-brown clay.
Squares of wood cover some of the track here, likely for worker safety.
From above, we can see that the flume on the right is looking pretty dirty amidst construction.
For reference on the painted rockwork, below is what this area looked like when demolition and construction first began back in January.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Mountain
We haven’t seen significant construction work on the front of the mountain during our last few updates.
The tree was removed from the very top of the mountain, and smaller trees have been cut away from the sides. Much like with the rockwork next to the flume, a hole was cut into the front of the façade but has since been patched up and repainted.
Scaffolding covers most of the façade.
A tree stump remains near the top of the mountain, and another tree still sits on the side. The Tiana’s Bayou Adventure model at D23 Expo implied all the trees would be removed, although designs could always change from concept to completion.
Though we can clearly see construction on the outside of Tiana’s Bayou Adventure, it’s impossible to know how much has changed inside. The ride will utilize the same track as Splash Mountain.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Façade Painting
On the side of the mountain, near the ride’s entrance, crews have been repainting the façade.
Some areas are looking a brighter red, while others are a light brown.
We can also see the roots of that tree up above.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure Queue
Construction has been ongoing in the Splash Mountain queue as the attraction is transformed into Tiana’s Bayou Adventure.
We saw crew members in a meeting at the back of the queue during our recent visit.
There is a stack of plywood paneling near the barn.
At least one tree (in the foreground of the photo above) has a purple piece of plastic tied around it, maybe marking it for removal.
We could see a black cart parked not far from the wood.
The barn doors and window shutters were removed. A red net and black tarps are in place over the entrance when crew members aren’t working inside.
The giant pile of dirt covered in plastic was removed from inside the barn when crews tore up the flooring.
It looks like some of the dirt has been removed from the construction site. Large pieces of steel are staged next to the remaining dirt, along with a cart to transport them.
Cinderblocks keep the plastic over the dirt from flying away, and blue net fencing around the pile reminds workers to steer clear.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure replaces Splash Mountain, which closed in January 2023 at Magic Kingdom. Check out our photos and video from “the last splash” and read our complete history of Splash Mountain. The ride will permanently close on May 31 at Disneyland.
Tiana’s Bayou Adventure invites guests to embark on a thrilling voyage, influenced by the beloved film, “The Princess and the Frog.” It picks up after the events of the film and includes characters new and old.
According to the official release, guests will “join Princess Tiana and jazz-loving alligator Louis during Mardi Gras season as they prepare to host a one-of-a-kind celebration for the people of New Orleans.” The story will feature Louis and a few other good friends enjoying zydeco, a musical fusion of rhythm and blues native to Louisiana.
The new attraction will take place inside Tiana’s Foods, a co-op that helps provide food for the community. Founded in 1927 by Tiana, the co-op is located within a salt mine, where cultivators grow crops along the former path of Splash Mountain’s waters. Visitors will ascend through a mill house that is constructed into the mountainside, enjoying the sights and sounds of the Louisiana bayou.
