Most of the scrims have been removed from around Minion Café at Universal Studios Florida, revealing the unfinished façade.
Minion Café Façade
The façade resembles a block of city buildings right next to each other. The restaurant will be much bigger than the Minion Café at Universal Studios Hollywood.
Scrims were removed from the side of the café facing the park’s main thoroughfare.
The giant pink cupcake was installed atop Minion Café last week.
Below the cupcake is a short, pink section of the façade.
A window is just barely visible over the construction walls. We could see lights and a white column inside, but not much else.
Next to the pink façade is a brick façade with three fake windows and columns between them. The bricks on the sides are red, so the white bricks facing the street may still need to be painted.
Supports for a sign stick out of the brick section.
A thinner section of brick façade is painted light blue, with yellow appearing to drip down the side of the building.
A support sticks out of a dark blue stripe across the middle of the façade. A street light is in a rounded piece near the bottom of the façade.
A black square near the top of the wall also has a support directly under it.
Next is a gray concrete building with columns and an arch. The trim has been painted white. Judging by yellow markings and painter’s tape, the gray sections will also be painted.
Finally, a red brick section is at the end of this row. It has three yellow lamps at the top of the wall, and a pink and teal sign near the bottom.
Around the corner, on the side of Minion Café facing Villain-Con Minion Blast, a crew member was working on a section of the façade with a large overhang.
We previously got a better look at this section before scrims went back up over it.
Read a Minion Café review from Universal Studios Hollywood. The Florida version will reportedly have a similar menu but with a few different items and Universal will push mobile ordering at the new quick-service restaurant.
It’s rumored Mel’s Drive-In will close for a refurbishment at the end of this month and Minion Café will open around the same time. It will be part of the new Illumination Avenue land.
Illumination Avenue
Illumination Avenue will include the pre-existing Despicable Me Minion Mayhem — which just had its façade refurbished — as well as the new Illumination’s Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café.
Villain-Con Minion Blast replaces Shrek 4-D, which permanently closed in January 2022. Villain-Con was featured in the first “Minions” spinoff movie, and the ride will feature various villains from the franchise, including the Vicious 6. The ride will purportedly be a shooting attraction with guests on a moving walkway.
Villain-Con Minion Blast and Minion Café are scheduled to open this summer.
Production Central is also home to Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit. At this time, the exact layout of Illumination Avenue is unclear in terms of dividing the area up as the Minions attractions currently sit between Transformers: The Ride 3D and Hollywood Rip Ride Rockit.
