Disney Confessional: A Series Of Unpopular Opinions Part Six

Happy Wednesday, Everyone! I thought we might spice things up this week with one of my favorites, A Series of Unpopular Opinions. While I share five of my unpopular Disney opinions, I love how this one always opens up some interesting conversations afterward. Shall we get started?

I love Disney Park reservations.

There, I’ve said it. I love Disney’s Park Reservation system and don’t care who knows it. (channeling a little bit of Elf in there for those who picked up on it) Coming from so far to enjoy the Disney Parks in the USA, I can’t think of anything worse than being sent back to the resort if the park was packed. Park reservations give guests the peace of mind that, with some early planning, their spot would be guaranteed. Now, I am sure that isn’t a good thing for locals or last-minute travelers; for local annual passholders, there should be an allocation for same-day entry to accommodate you (for the whole day, not just after 2:00 pm). However, for the rest of us in the masses traveling a long way, a park reservation represents the confidence that you have a place in the park. It is also a great way for Disney to control the crowds without as much of the last-minute disappointment for guests, and if you are making a rush trip to the parks, you can easily tell ahead of time if you could visit the park of your choice and plan accordingly.

Country Bear Jamboree is creepy.

I’ll start by telling you that I used to LOVE this attraction. As a kid, I thought Country Bear Jamboree was so neat, and I loved the little cutie bear on the swing. As an adult, I see these bears and think, wow, this is really offputting. Part of it might be the sound they make as their mechanical mouth clamp together. Or, perhaps I’ve just become so accustomed to the new style of Disney animatronics where everything moves so seamlessly and is more realistic; I’m not sure. But whenever someone starts talking about their love of this attraction, I always end up tight-lipped until the subject changes. I can appreciate the nostalgia of it but other than that, you won’t find me at this attraction.

I will forever love the Rainforest Cafe.

I know. You might be thinking this one is a little odd, given that old-school animatronics didn’t do it for me at Country Bear Jamboree. However, something about the Rainforest Cafe just always makes me happy. It was my first experience in immersive-themed dining as a kid, and I actually believe that it has held up pretty well over time! Sure, the food is nothing to write home about, but it isn’t terrible either, relatively on par with any family chain restaurant; though the atmosphere is something you will never forget, I go every chance I get.

Disney Ear Hats are my least favorite accessory.

Another curve ball. Since I love (/adore/am-obsessed-with/want all of them) Minnie Mouse Ear Headbands, it might be confusing to hear that I have a deep dislike for Ear Hats; however, there is a reason behind it that will seem obvious once I say it. This face, and my series of chins, weren’t designed to be framed by thin elastic accentuating my circular jawline. I understand that kids can put up with it; they seem to be immune to the frustrations of fighting with elastic chin straps. But adults, how do you do it? It feels like I am being strangled by an invisible wire. Also, where does my giant messy blonde bun go with that thing on? It’s too hard. Pass me my headband…

I can’t stand the submarine ride, but I love the water feature.

I have a love/hate relationship with the submarine ride in Disneyland Park. I love the way that area looks with the beautiful aqua-colored water free-flowing around the rocks. The problem is I loathe being on this ride and only ever get on when traveling with friends who have never done it before. I know that for some, it is a magical adventure under the sea with Nemo, but for me, it’s just a smelly, dark tube with too many people in it.

Don’t leave me out in the wind; share with me your unpopular Disney opinions below. Do you agree with any of mine?
