We won’t lie, there are some seriously impressive animatronics in Disney World!
Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run pre-show
From the Shaman of Song on Na’vi River Journey to Hondo Ohnaka in the pre-show of Millennium Falcon: Smuggler’s Run, Disney has done some very cool work with technology in the past few years. But even though there are certain animatronics that take our breath away, there are others that sometimes look a little…off.
One such example is the infamous animatronics on Frozen Ever After in EPCOT. These figures use projection mapping technology to project faces onto blank heads, and sometimes the effect can be a little jarring. We’ve even seen cases in the past of the projection mapping glitching and making the characters’ expressions disappear entirely.

The animatronics on that ride have been a hot topic of discussion in the spheres of Disney fans for the past few years. (Some people likely have magnified disgruntlement due to the loss of Maelstrom, which was Frozen Ever After’s predecessor.) But now, it looks like Disney has taken the feedback and is stepping up its game!
Frozen Ever After in Disney World
In Hong Kong Disneyland, Disney is currently building a land called World of Frozen, where there will be another Frozen Ever After ride. And from the sneak peek at the ride that Disney shared, it looks like they’ve improved the animatronics!

Disney shared some photos and video footage from a ride-through with the Imagineers behind the attraction on Instagram. And just look at those animatronic faces — they’re so realistic!
It just goes to show how much technology has advanced in the past few years. Many people in the comments were calling for Disney to update the EPCOT version of the ride, but no plans have been announced for that. We’ll be on the lookout for any more news about World of Frozen in Hong Kong!
