When you think about ALL of the Disney music that has been released over the years — we’re talking everything from the Cheetah Girls music and tunes from Zenon to songs from Frozen 2 and Moana — what song ranks at the top of your list?
We’ve shared Disney music news and updates in the past including a look at 10 awesome Disney Spotify playlists and huge milestones hit by the hit Disney song “We Don’t Talk About Bruno,” but now we just HAVE to tackle a controversial Disney song ranking list that’s been circling the internet. And let’s just say, you might have some STRONG feelings about this one.
Recently, Billboard released their ranking of the 100 greatest Disneyverse songs of ALL time. Disney is celebrating its 100th Anniversary, so it seems like a top 100 list of Disney songs is totally appropriate right now. But some of the choices on here have caused CHAOS.
One Twitter user called the list “garbage,” while others asked whether the list was a JOKE. Why? Well, let’s get into some of the rankings.
All the way at the BOTTOM of the list at spot 100 is…”Into the Unknown.” Oh boy, we can hear the screams already. This song was seriously popular when Frozen 2 came out and we have a feeling some fans are absolutely ENRANGED that it’s at the bottom of the list.
Perhaps to the happiness of Disney Parks fans, the catchy “Nothing Can Stop Us Now” tune from Mickey & Minnie’s Runaway Railway ranks above the Frozen 2 tune in the 99th spot. Do you agree with that or would you have the rankings flipped?
Other interesting songs in the bottom 50 of the list include:
- “Golden Dream” (The American Adventure, 1982) — 96th
- “A Place Called Slaughter Race” (Ralph Breaks the Internet, 2018) — 93rd (yeah, that’s ABOVE “Into the Unknown” )
- “One Little Spark” (Journey Into Imagination With Figment, 1983) — 86th
- “Grim Grinning Ghosts” (The Haunted Mansion, 1969) — 84th
- “Bet on It” (High School Musical 2, 2007) — 76th
- “The Best of Both Worlds” (Hannah Montana, 2006) — 58th
And there are plenty of songs from Disney animation sprinkled in there too, as well as some songs from Disney+ series and the parks.
What about the top 50? Let’s go through some of the ones in ranks 50-11 before we hit the top 10. Here are some notable picks:
- “Soarin Theme” (Soarin’ Over California, 2001) –49th (truly a solid pick)
- “How Far I’ll Go” (Moana, 2016) — 44th
- “Pink Elephants on Parade” (Dumbo, 1941) — 41st
- “Call Me, Beep Me!” (Kim Possible, 2002) — 36th (yes, let that sink in, “Call Me, Beep Me!” beat out “How Far I’ll Go” )
- “You’ll Be in My Heart” (Tarzan, 1999) — 34th
- “This Is Me” (Camp Rock, 2008) — 31st (whoever made this list clearly loved Disney Channel and honestly, we can relate to that)
- “You’ve Got a Friend in Me” (Toy Story, 1995) — 29th
- “That’s So Raven” (That’s So Raven, 2003) — 28th
- “You’re Welcome” (Moana, 2016) — 21st
- “We Don’t Talk About Bruno” (Encanto, 2021) — 12th
- “Circle of Life” (The Lion King, 1994) — 11th
And finally, we get to the top 10. Get ready folks, there are some interesting picks on this list!
- 10th — “Breaking Free” (High School Musical, 2006)
- 9th — “A Spoonful of Sugar” (Mary Poppins, 1964)
- 8th — “The Climb” (Hannah Montana: The Movie, 2009) (yes, HANNAH MONTANA is in the top 10!)
- 7th — “The Mickey Mouse March” (The Mickey Mouse Club, 1955)
- 6th — “A Whole New World” (Aladdin, 1992)
- 5th — “When You Wish Upon a Star” (Pinocchio, 1940)
- 4th — “Be Our Guest” (Beauty and the Beast, 1991)
- 3rd — “It’s a Small World (After All)” (It’s a Small World, 1964) (apologies if that’s stuck in your head all day now)
- 2nd — “Let It Go” (Frozen, 2013)
And in the number 1 spot we have…drumroll please…“Part of Your World” (The Little Mermaid, 1989)! Little Mermaid fans — REJOICE!
Okay, so let’s debrief here for a second. “The Climb” and “Breaking Free” are in the top 10, while songs like “Remember Me” (Coco) and “Reflection” (Mulan) rank lower than that (but still within the top 25). Oh, “Supernova Girl” (Zenon: Girl of the 21st Century) is also in the top 25 so…hooray for Zenon fans?
At the same time, songs like “Yo Ho (A Pirate’s Life for Me)”, “You Can Fly! You Can Fly! You Can Fly!” (Peter Pan), and “Just Around the Riverbend” (Pocahontas) are in the bottom 50. Oh yeah, and “S.I.M.P. (Squirrels in My Pants)” (Phineas and Ferb, 2008) (literally THE SQUIRRELS IN MY PANTS SONG) is 75th while “Grim Grinning Ghosts” is at 84. We have a feeling the ghosts from the Haunted Mansion are NOT pleased.
