Hamilton Sing-Along
The full recording of the famous Broadway show first debuted on Disney+ for the 4th of July 2020. Here is how it is described on Disney+:
An unforgettable cinematic stage performance, the filmed version of the original Broadway production of “Hamilton” combines the best elements of live theater, film and streaming to bring the cultural phenomenon to homes around the world for a thrilling, once-in-a-lifetime experience. “Hamilton” is the story of America then, told by America now. Featuring a score that blends hip-hop, jazz, R&B and Broadway, “Hamilton” has taken the story of American founding father Alexander Hamilton and created a revolutionary moment in theatre—a musical that has had a profound impact on culture, politics, and education. Filmed at The Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in June of 2016, the film transports its audience into the world of the Broadway show in a uniquely intimate way. With book, music, and lyrics by Lin-Manuel Miranda and direction by Thomas Kail, “Hamilton” is inspired by the book “Alexander Hamilton” by Ron Chernow and produced by Thomas Kail, Lin-Manuel Miranda and Jeffrey Seller, with Sander Jacobs and Jill Furman serving as executive producers. The 11-time-Tony Award®-, GRAMMY Awardc’-‘-, Olivier Award- and Pulitzer Prize-winning stage musical stars: Daveed Diggs as Marquis de Lafayette/Thomas Jefferson; Renee Elise Goldsberry as Angelica Schuyler; Jonathan Groff as King George; Christopher Jackson as George Washington; Jasmine Cephas Jones as Peggy Schuyler/Maria Reynolds; Lin-Manuel Miranda as Alexander Hamilton; Leslie Odom, Jr. as Aaron Burr; Okieriete Onaodowan as Hercules Mulligan/James Madison; Anthony Ramos as John Laurens/Philip Hamilton; and Phillipa Soo as Eliza Hamilton.
The show is 2 hours and 40 minutes long. The sing-along will presumably be the same recording but with lyrics on screen.
“Hamilton” was an instant success when it debuted off-Broadway in February 2015 at the Public Theater. It won eight Drama Desk Awards, including Outstanding Musical, that season. It transferred to the Richard Rodgers Theatre on Broadway in August 2015. It received a record-breaking 16 nominations and 11 awards, including Best Musical, at the 70th Tony Awards. It also received the 2016 Pulitzer Prize for Drama. It continues to run on Broadway, as well as the West End in London and in Hamburg, Germany. There have been runs in Chicago and Australia, as well as multiple national tours. An international tour and UK/Ireland tour are planned to begin this year.
“Hamilton” director Thomas Kail has been tapped to direct the live-action “Moana.” “Hamilton” writer and star Lin-Manuel Miranda composed and sang music for the original animated “Moana.”
Miranda was also involved with the story and wrote original songs for Disney’s “Encanto.” He assisted Alan Menken in updating and writing new music and lyrics for “The Little Mermaid” live-action remake.
Miranda will appear as Hermes in the upcoming “Percy Jackson & the Olympians” series on Disney+.
