A LOT has happened in the Walt Disney Company over the last few years.

In 2021, after Bob Iger left his position as the company’s CEO and was replaced by Bob Chapek, several executives also stepped down. Of course, we now know that Iger ended up RETURNING as CEO of The Walt Disney Company, but one of those executives went on to get a new gig…at TikTok.

According to the Los Angeles Times, Zenia Mucha, who once led Disney’s public relations department for almost 20 years, is now joining TikTok as the social media company’s chief brand and communications officer. Mucha was one of the executives that left Disney in 2021 after Iger’s departure.

Mucha brings experience to TikTok not just in entertainment, but also in politics. Before she joined Disney, she worked as an aide to New York Governor George E. Pataki in the 1990s. Her new role comes at a critical time when TikTok is facing a potential ban in the United States. In May, the state of Montana became the first state to outright ban the social media site.

“Zenia will focus on advancing the strategic vision of our brand and advising key businesses,” said TikTok CEO Shou Chew when he announced Zenia’s new role to employees. “It is essential that we widen the aperture of our Marketing and Communications functions to further fortify TikTok as a beloved brand and one of the most trusted entertainment platforms in the world.”

Mucha has actually been working as an advisor to TikTok before taking on this official role. In a statement, Mucha said, “TikTok’s ability to encourage creativity, connect people and create communities is nothing short of inspiring and I am excited to be joining this innovative and dynamic company.”
