The Cinderella Castle moat has yet to be refilled after “The World’s Most Magical Celebration” 50th Anniversary Decorations were removed from the castle over a week ago.
Cinderella Castle Moat Still Partially Empty
The moat around Cinderella Castle has has not yet been refilled after over a week since the last 50th anniversary castle decoration was removed. Pictured above is the view from the Tomorrowland Bridge. A temporary dam is still set up to prevent the moat from refilling.
Two cherry pickers are still parked for future use. Though not much has changed since we reported on this space last week, an additional tarp and sandbags now line the side of the moat.
Cast Members may still be planning to do refurbishment work on the castle.
The view from Liberty Square Bridge shows a completely dry moat. Metal scaffolding to assist Cast Members is still in place, and a cherry picker is parked near the base of the castle.
The moat is 30-feet wide and as deep as 7 feet in places. It surrounds Cinderella Castle and is filled with 3 million gallons of water. It is also home to a variety of fish, turtles, and other aquatic life. The moat was built in 1971, the same year that Magic Kingdom opened.
Cast Members needed to drain part of the moat in order to access the sides of Cinderella Castle. Cherry pickers have been parked in the moat for weeks as workers removed 50th Anniversary Celebration decorations.
“The World’s Most Magical Celebration” wrapped up in March, and now Walt Disney World is celebrating two other events: the Disney100 Years of Wonder Anniversary, and Pride Month during June.
Current Disney Parks Celebrations
Both of these events include special merchandise, treats, and events to help guests party while they visit the resort.
Disney100 Years of Wonder
On a global scale, Disney is celebrating “100 Years of Wonder.” This celebration is the largest event ever thrown by The Walt Disney Company. The heart of the celebration takes place at Disneyland Resort, as it is “The Place Where it All Began.”
The party kicked off on January 27, 2023, and is expected to last through July 2024.
At Walt Disney World, Disney100 will mostly be celebrated at EPCOT with Mickey and Minnie in their new platinum outfits. A new Spectacle of Light debuted on Spaceship Earth, and in late 2023, a new Disney100 nighttime spectacular will replace EPCOT Forever. This show was brought back after the end of Harmonious in early April but has only returned as an interim replacement.
In addition, Journey of Water, CommuniCore Hall and Plaza, World Celebration Garden, and Dreamers Point featuring the “Dreamer” statue of Walt Disney are all scheduled to open in late 2023 at EPCOT.
Disney Pride Month Celebration
Throughout the Walt Disney World Resort, many treats and merchandise options are also being released for a limited time to celebrate Pride Month. Many specialty snacks are coming to the parks and resort hotels. We have a full guide to Pride Month food and beverage offerings throughout the resort you can check out here.
