Character breakfast has returned to Garden Grill Restaurant, the rotating eatery in The Land pavilion at EPCOT. Naturally we had to try it for ourselves, so we made our way down to World Nature for this fairly unique experience.
Garden Grill Restaurant
Exterior
The Land is located in World Nature, sandwiched in the center between Imagination and The Seas.
A quick stop at the second floor of the pavilion reveals Garden Grill. While the procedures don’t at all reflect the way things are now, we did dine here in 2020 when it first reopened for lunch and dinner.
Interior
The interior setup is fairly simple, as all the tables are located on a rotating platform. When you arrive at your seats, the plates and bowls are set up in a Mickey Mouse shape, which is a nice extra touch.
Characters
Being Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Harvest Feast, of course the two mischievous chipmunks will be a part of the character ensemble at this character breakfast.
Also around is Pluto,.
Mickey makes his grand appearance in a thematically appropriate farmer costume. Of course we got a shot of him with a waffle.
Each guest will receive an autographed card. The front features art of the four characters with a bountiful crate of fresh produce. The back has the EPCOT and Garden Grill Restaurant logos, plus autographs from each of the characters.
Chip ‘n’ Dale’s Harvest Feast Breakfast
Breakfast is available between 8:30 a.m. – 10:30 a.m. daily at Garden Grill Restaurant. The meal is served family style at a flat, per person rate of $27 for children ages 3-9 and $42 for everyone age 10+. Children under 3 eat free across Walt Disney World Resort.
Cinnamon Monkey Bread
The bread is served piping hot, and there’s nothing not to like. It’s a delicious starter to the meal, but it would be nice to have some kind of sweet icing spread.
Welcome Watermelon
It’s certainly fine for watermelon, although we wouldn’t consider ourselves watermelon connoisseurs per se.
Family-style Platter
Scrambled eggs, smoked bacon, Mickey-shaped waffles with syrup, fresh fruit, cheesy potato casserole, and grilled flank steak with ranchero sauce
Kicking things off with the flank steak, it tastes a little bit fatty. But once we got to the other end, it was well-cooked but slightly chewy. It’s good enough, certainly not terrible. The ranchero sauce is slightly spicy although not much. It’s not going to set your mouth on fire.
Next we went for the potato casserole, in the lower center section. It’s creamy, but not al dente. We sometimes prefer them crispier, and these are fairly lightly cooked.
Meanwhile the bacon is perfect, it’s exactly cooked to how it should be. It’s crisp enough, not rubbery but not burnt.
Of course, we have to try the real wild cards of any Disney breakfast — the eggs and Mickey waffles. First off, the eggs are surprisingly solid for a Disney buffet, certainly more so than we’ve experienced on other occasions. They’re about as dead-on as you can get with this sort of thing, for sure. They’re not too runny, not too solid, it’s just fine.
The Mickey waffles, of course on the lower and center left, are nothing short of perfect. The exterior is slightly crisp with a light doughy interior. Perhaps these are the best small Mickey waffles we’ve ever had at Walt Disney World.
A plant-based version of the feast is available, featuring imitation “eggs,” Impossible breakfast sausage, home fries, and plant-based Mickey waffles.
POG Juice
Mimosas and Bloody Marys are available at an additional cost.
Overall
If we were to rank this against Akershus Royal Banquet Hall, which also offers a character breakfast within EPCOT, we would say that the food may be better at Akershus. But it’s still a great setting, and it definitely isn’t a bad choice. The fare is standard, the costumes for Pluto and Mickey are unique, and we still highly recommend it.
While we would still prefer to eat lunch or dinner here, the breakfast is still a fun experience, and you won’t be disappointed.
