When it comes to classic quick-service locations in Disney World, it doesn’t get much more iconic than Casey’s Corner.
In fact, DFB readers recently voted it as the BEST quick-service spot in Disney World, so we guess y’all really like those Corn Dog Nuggets, too (with that plastic cheese, of course). But Casey’s offers up some standard hotdogs, too, including a few plant-based options. We’re trying one of those NEW plant-based options now…and well, we have some thoughts.
So Casey’s Corner just introduced the Plant-based Chicago-style Dog for $12.29. We’re already fans of the regular Chicago-style Dog, so we wanted to see how the plant-based version stacks up. The Plant-based Chicago-style Dog is made with Plant-based “Sausage” topped with Diced Tomatoes, Onions, Yellow Mustard, and Chicago Green Relish.
Okay, first off, this didn’t taste like a dog, but more like an Italian sausage (we could see and taste the fennel seed in it). This was an odd combo because it didn’t work with these toppings. It also tasted nothing like the Chicago-style dog at Casey’s made with meat. It was also missing some key components that make up a Chicago-style dog. (You know, like the signature pickle spear and big tomato slices?)
We did like that it had the bright green relish on it; it just didn’t make this dog really taste Chicago-style enough. Everything together was just kind of bland, so we were pretty disappointed in it. We are glad there are now TWO plant-based options available at Casey’s, but if you need help deciding, go with the Plant-based Loaded Slaw Dog instead.
