Rumors continue to swirl for Halloween Horror Nights 2023 at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood. Fans have been discussing a possible haunted house inspired by “The Last of Us” for years now, but it has never come to fruition. Following the success of “The Last of Us” TV show, it seems more likely, but rumors suggest the house will be inspired by the original game, not the show.
Orlando is also expected to have a “The Last of Us” scare zone.
“The Last of Us”
“The Last of Us” video game was developed by Naughty Dog and released in 2013. A Part II was released in 2020. HBO’s “The Last of Us,” starring Pedro Pascal as Joel and Bella Ramsey as Ellie, premiered season 1 inspired by the first game in early 2023. Pascal likened the filming experience to “an extreme version of Halloween Horror Nights.”
“The Last of Us” was rumored for Halloween Horror Nights last year, before the show aired, suggesting any previous plans for a house were based on the video game. A game-inspired house would make sense because it would mean Universal wouldn’t have to cast Pascal and Ramsey look-alikes or pay for the rights to their likenesses.
“The Last of Us” has appeared on speculation maps for both Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios Florida and Halloween Horror Nights in Universal Studios Hollywood this year.
So far, the only confirmed haunted house is one inspired by Chucky.
