The new terminal at Orlando International Airport just opened last year, but it continues to grow and expand.
Terminal C is pretty huge, and it has a lot of popular things, including Sunshine Diner (which is homed by Chef Art Smith, who also owns Homecomin’ in Disney Springs) and Wine Bar George (which is also in Disney Springs). Terminal C is also home to the Brightline train station, which will be opening soon. But something else NEW is also coming to Terminal C.
Earlier this year, Orlando International Airport began to consider a moving walkway to Terminal C after passengers complained about how long it took to get to the furthest gate (15 minutes). The walk spans nearly half a mile and had become a source of stress for many travelers through the airport.
The original plan for Terminal C was to install the moving walkways when the terminal was still under construction, but it was scrapped to keep the project on budget. Now, according to The Orlando Business Journal, the Greater Orlando Aviation Authority, which is in charge of the airport is “in the early stages of adding a pedestrian walkway.”
The aviation authority is looking for design and building services for the project with hopes of creating a 450-foot elevated, enclosed, and air-conditioned pedestrian walkway that will connect Terminal C to the existing facility that will eventually house “up to four forms of passenger rail and all forms of public and private ground transportation.”
The plan also includes adding a rental car lobby adjacent to the pedestrian walkway. The airport has already held a private procurement meeting with three firms interested in the project, so it looks like plans will be moving forward to make it happen.
There are also plans to build a new hotel either next to or within Terminal C. The Greater Orlando Aviation Authority previously approved a request for proposals for the development of the hotel.
