The Disney World Snack You Should NOT Eat Before a First Date

You might think it’s impossible to find good food around Disney World — it is a theme park after all. But we’re here (and incredibly enthused) to tell you that you’re WRONG.

But what if you follow a specific diet? Disney has recently stepped up its game when it comes to allergy-friendly, gluten-free, and even plant-based dishes — and we just found one that might blow them all out of the water.

The Artist’s Palette serves up Counter Service options for breakfast, lunch, and dinner at Saratoga Springs Resort, and we recently decided to stop by for lunch! We spotted a plant-based item on the menu that sounded pretty darn appetizing, so we decided to try it out — the Plant-Based Gyro.

It’s made with Plant-based “Sausage”, Hummus, “Tzatziki”, Lettuce, Tomatoes, Onions, Cucumbers, Kalamata Olives, and Golden Raisins in a Baked Pita with Herbed-Red Wine Vinaigrette and served with House-made Saratoga Chips for $10.79.

WOW — this seriously knocked our socks off. The raisins add a sweetness every few bites, and the whole garbanzo beans are a nice texture we weren’t expecting. The plant-based sausage is an interesting choice, but it does kind of mimic the flavors of traditional gyro meat.

The pita itself tasted fresh, and the cucumber was crunchy and refreshing. But, that creamy tzatziki-style sauce was the star of the show. It was smooth and had a lot of dill flavor, but not in an overpowering way. There was quite a strong onion and garlic flavor, though, so you might want to pack some breath mints!

When the flavors all come together, this is really an impressive dish that we think even meat eaters would like. It’s perfectly balanced with sweetness from the raisins, tang from the olives and onions, saltiness from the sausage, and that tzatziki to top it all off. Not to mention, this is a HUGE sandwich and kept us full for a good while.

This thing was huge and delicious

If you’re a plant-based eater or are just looking for something different to try, head over to Artist’s Palette to give this a try — and be sure to stay tuned to DFB for more Disney World food reviews and news!
