The barrel bridge has been removed from Tom Sawyer Island at Magic Kingdom, potentially for refurbishment.
Tom Sawyer Island Barrel Bridge
We could see that the bridge was missing from across the Rivers of America.
Construction walls are up on the island to block the openings where the bridge usually is.
The barrel bridge has two sections, with a platform at the center. The platform remains in the water.
The bridge was previously removed during a lengthy refurbishment of Tom Sawyer Island in 2020 and 2021. It was reinstalled in April 2021 and reopened shortly after.
For now, guests hoping to traverse this section of Tom Sawyer Island have to take the sidewalks.
Hopefully, the bridge will be back soon.
Here’s what the barrel bridge looks like when open.
Guests walk on wood planks attached to floating barrels for an extra wobbly experience.
Tom Sawyer Island
Disney’s original Tom Sawyer Island opened at Disneyland a year after the rest of the park. Versions later opened at Magic Kingdom and Tokyo Disneyland.
The island is full of caves and structures referencing “The Adventures of Tom Sawyer.” The main attraction of the Magic Kingdom version is Fort Langhorn.
At Disneyland, the island became Pirate’s Lair on Tom Sawyer Island in 2007, with connections to “Pirates of the Caribbean” to coincide with the release of “Pirates of the Caribbean: At World’s End.”
Tom Sawyer Island and Rivers of America host “Fantasmic!” at Disneyland, but the show is currently suspended following the Maleficent dragon catching on fire. We have seen some construction on Tom Sawyer Island since then.
