How To Plan a Romantic Getaway at Walt Disney World

When you think about a Walt Disney World vacation, most of us will picture families with a band of rowdy children in tow. However, the Orlando-based theme park can also be a fantastic location for a romantic getaway with the right level of planning. There is so much to see and enjoy with your special someone; you just need to know where to find it.

When choosing where you might stay on your vacation, take a look at Moderate or Deluxe accommodation. While the Value Resorts are great for couples and families alike, they tend to offer a different experience that doesn’t set the romantic ambiance that you may be looking for. From food court meals to large swimming and recreation areas, it can be a bit hectic. Instead, look at a Moderate Resort, like Port Orleans Riverside, where you have an on-site table service restaurant and a more secluded layout for casual strolls to and from your room. While you are there, why not take a horse-drawn carriage ride along the scenic banks of the Sassagoula River? Each ride is $55 for a 25-minute ride for up to four adults.

Taking advantage of early morning and late evenings is an excellent way to get all the best parts of Disney Parks without the peak crowds that can be found in the middle of the day. Enjoying some of the attractions at nighttime can make them feel a little extra magical as the after-dark lighting casts an enchanted glow around the parks. Visiting popular attractions during the parade or fireworks is another way to enjoy a quieter and more intimate experience while some of the families are watching the festivities.

If you want to catch the fireworks without being surrounded by the masses, make a dining reservation at California Grill in the Contemporary Resort, where you can watch the sun go down and settle in for the fireworks from a distance. Be sure to check show times and reservations, and always keep in mind that fireworks can be canceled at any time, subject to weather conditions.

Spend some time at the Piano Bar, Jellyrolls, in Disney’s BoardWalk area. The location is lots of fun for anyone over 21 years of age, with live music in the form of dualling pianos and audience sing-alongs. It’s easy to spend a few late-night hours here and have some fun.

When you are enjoying the sights in the parks, grab a PhotoPass and take advantage of professional photographers all over the park. Get those couples shots that aren’t taken selfie-style with stunning backdrops around every turn.

Walt Disney World can be a wonderful destination for your romantic getaway, though much of the result depends on your approach going into it. If you accept that you will be surrounded by beautiful chaos, then you are more likely to be able to see through it and enjoy each other’s company.
