The sun has been shining in Florida recently, with countless Disney guests telling stories of relentless heat over the Fourth of July weekend. There are many wardrobe changes that you will be glad you made when it comes to hot and humid conditions, like loose, light layers and updo hairstyles. But there is one mistake that many first-timers make that they often regret. Flip flops.
Here in Australia, we call them thongs, and around the world, they are known as anything from slippers to sandals. This barely-there type of footwear is popular in summer thanks to the breezy feeling that your feet are freely exposed to the air. However, there are certain circumstances when your flip-flops can be working against you, leading to pain in your feet, ankles, and legs. Spending long summer days in the Disney Parks definitely qualifies as one of the times you are best to steer clear of them.
Some of you will swear by them, boasting that you always wear them without fault; however, for the majority of us, giving in to this tempting choice of footwear will be a mistake. If you regularly spend long days in your flip flops, walking long distances and standing for hours on end, then you might be one of the lucky few that can get away with it. For the rest of us, the lack of structure and zero arch support will have you wishing you listened to that crazy Aussie woman on the DIS and took some well-fitting sneakers as well.
My go-to shoes when it comes to long theme park days are my Skechers, usually in two different shapes so that I can alternate them between 20,000 step days for a little bit of refreshment for my feet. Are you a flip-flop wearer? Or have you learned the hard way that this convenient practice isn’t for you? Share with us your favorite shoes to wear when exploring the Disney Parks.
