A new Orange Bird mug honoring over 50 years of the mascot has landed at Walt Disney World Resort. We found it in the Emporium at Magic Kingdom, on Main Street, U.S.A.

Orange Bird Mug – $24.99

The round Orange Bird mug resembles citrus fruit, with a subtle texture and a few white flowers. “Serving up sunshine since 1971” is in green lettering across one side.

The mug is ceramic with a high gloss glaze.

The other side of the mug reads “The Original Florida Orange Bird.” The first three words are green, while Orange Bird’s name is white.

The handle is green, with a figure of the iconic bird perched on top of it.

Orange Bird is an orange canary, but also resembles the orange fruit with his large round head. He has green leaf-like wings and two green leaves sticking out of his head.

The interior of the mug is also orange but lacks the rind texture.

The Original Florida Orange Bird

Disney created Orange Bird as a mascot for the Florida Citrus Commission and the character debuted with the opening of Magic Kingdom in 1971. At the time, the Florida Citrus Commission sponsored Tropical Serenade and Sunshine Tree Terrace.

Tropical Serenade was the Walt Disney World name for Enchanted Tiki Room. It was an opening-day attraction at Magic Kingdom and later became The Enchanted Tiki Room (Under New Management) featuring Iago from “Aladdin” and Zazu from “The Lion King.” Though this version of the show was widely disliked, it remained in place until an attic fire in 2011. The original version of the show was then mostly restored and named Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room.

Sunshine Tree Terrace is a quick-service location offering ice cream, DOLE Whip, and the classic Citrus Swirl. Orange Bird is featured on signage and on a mural near Sunshine Tree Terrace.

This citrus bird remains a staple of Walt Disney World Resort and is sometimes considered the overall mascot of Adventureland. He’s also used as a mascot of the EPCOT International Flower & Garden Festival, appearing on food and merchandise. He’s featured on merchandise available at other Disney Parks, including Disneyland and Tokyo Disneyland, where the character proved popular.
