What We Tried

So, what did we try? Well, we’ll start with our drink — the Lychee Tea. This is made of Gold Peak Unsweetened Black Tea, Premium Lychee Syrup with Lychee Coconut Jelly. It is priced at $6.99.

The tea was fine but truthfully just tasted like your regular sweet tea. The jellies provided a nice texture difference (so that was good) and they made the drink more fun. But, unfortunately, the lychee flavor wasn’t very strong at all. To us, it tasted more like a sweetener.

Now, don’t get us wrong, the drink was delicious and refreshing, but for $6.99 it’s a bit pricey for what mostly tasted like an ordinary sweet tea drink.

Our Tea

Next up we have the Karaage-inspired Crispy Chicken Sandwich. This has Slaw and Togarashi Mayonnaise on a Potato Bun and is served with Garlic Chips. It’s priced at $14.99.

This sandwich was DELICIOUS! Our reporter who tried it admitted that they really enjoy slaw and mayo though, which are both key to this sandwich, so keep that in mind if you hate those ingredients. There was a slight kick to the dish, but, as our reporter put it it was “nothing my grandma couldn’t handle.” 😂

Sandwich

The chicken was cooked fine and had a great flavor, but was definitely overpowered by the slaw. The bread was a little crunchy, which was slightly strange but not terrible.

Sandwich

The garlic chips served with the dish were interesting because the garlic really only hit our palette at the end. So just don’t be surprised if it takes a little bit to really get that flavor. We also enjoyed their light texture.

Overall, this dish was a WIN in our books.

Would You Give It a Try?

Next, we have the Beef Birria Ramen. This is made with Consomé, served with House-made Birria, Soft-boiled Egg, Monterey Jack, Cilantro, Roasted Corn, Onions, and Radish. It’s priced at $15.49.

WOWZA — this ramen really has a KICK to it. It was VERY spicy so just be aware! The birria was wonderfully tender and just melted in our mouths, plus it was seasoned really well. The corn tasted like street corn and added a nice little crunch/pop to the dish. We do wish there were more radishes, however, because that seemed to balance the birria nicely.

Our Dish

The egg was a little runny and cooked how we expected, but our reporter shared that they’re not a soft-boiled egg fan so it wasn’t their favorite part of the dish. Overall, this was good and packed with lots of flavor but it is definitely spicy so be prepared for that!

Ramen Time

Finally, we ended our meal with a little dessert — the new Baymax Macaron! This is filled with Chocolate-Hazelnut Spread and Buttercream and is priced at $6.99.

Baymax

This is a fairly basic dessert overall — mostly tasting like a vanilla cake with Nutella. It was also very sweet. (If you have a sweet tooth though, you won’t mind — our reporter shared that they could probably eat 12 if given the chance!) The macaron does melt fairly easily in the heat (as is to be expected) so try to eat it up relatively quickly or find some shade if you can.

Time to Dig In

The texture was nice — flaky on the outside with a thick and creamy filling inside. After the spiciness of the ramen and the slight kick from the chicken sandwich, this was a wonderful and sweet way to end the meal.

A Peek Inside

And that’s a look at some of the new dishes! Which ones would YOU want to try? Tell us in the comments.

Remember that these aren’t the only new eats coming to San Fransokyo Square. Starting July 26th, more new snacks arrive at other restaurants in the area, and more of the land will be completed as August 31st nears. You can get a preview of the new eats coming to the land here.
