The old shingles have been removed from the roof of what was once the ESPN Club at Disney’s BoardWalk as it is transformed into The Cake Bake Shop by Gwendolyn Rogers.
The Cake Bake Shop Construction
While the tower was completely demolished and reconstructed, the lower section of roofing remained for a while. Now the gray shingles have all been removed, exposing the steel sheets below.
New steel frames have also been added to the walls of the tower, which is a slightly different shape from the original. There are gaps for windows, which the original didn’t have.
Corrugated paneling was added to the very top of the tower.
Walls were demolished early on in the construction work. We can just barely see some steel framework behind the construction walls. A permit for the “buildout of the Cake Bake Shop” contracts Johnson-Lancaster and Associates, Inc. The Clearwater-based company provides and installs food service equipment.
There will be two sides to The Cake Bake Shop. Guests will enter the table-service restaurant through the rounded section.
To the right, guests will enter a quick-service bakery.
Since our last construction update, more of what was once the base layer of the ESPN Club sign has been cut off, making it the same height as the roof.
The Cake Bake Shop is set to open at Disney’s BoardWalk later this year, but two locations already exist at Broad Ripple Village in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Carmel City Center in Carmel, Indiana. The combination restaurants and bakeries are known for their lavish decor, artfully composed dishes, and afternoon tea experiences. Online ordering is also available.
Disney’s BoardWalk Refurbishment
Disney’s BoardWalk has been undergoing an overall refurbishment over the past few years.
The BoardWalk Bakery closed to make way for the BoardWalk Deli.
In December 2022, the new Carousel Coffee shop and seating area opened, replacing Dundy’s Sundries, which closed permanently in October. Decorations continued to be added over the following weeks.
The lobby of Disney’s BoardWalk Inn was remodeled earlier this year with minimal changes.
Trattoria al Forno and the Pizza Window temporarily closed while crews worked on the guest room balconies above.
A new Blue Ribbon Corn Dogs location will take over the BoardWalk To Go kiosk.
