Signage has been installed at EPCOT for the newest World Showcase restaurant — Shiki-Sai.
New Restaurant for Japan & World Showcase
This will be located in the Japan Pavilion.
Shiki-Sai can now be seen beside Teppan Edo on the outdoor sign displaying the Mitsukoshi Restaurants, above the popular Mitsukoshi store.
More signs are popping up, showcasing the fare this new venue will be offering, including sushi, noodles, rice, and sake, just to name a few items.
Inside, a sign advertising “authentic Japanese sushi” has been put in place for Shiki-Sai.
Here’s a look at the entrance for this restaurant, once it opens later this summer.
Shiki-Sai
Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya is an upcoming table-service restaurant offering “a festive dining experience in a sharable Izakaya-style.” It ostensibly replaces Tokyo Dining, which closed last November.
At Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya, guests will experience seasonal favorites of Japan. With each month comes a different celebration, from “hanging tanzaku to celebrate Tanabata in July to savoring moon-viewing dumplings in September.” A cultural representative from Japan will guide guests through each festival.
Hand-painted artwork and lanterns highlight some of Japan’s natural wonders. There will be a trellis inspired by the roof of the Phoenix Hall in Kyoto.
There will be a full menu with sushi and teppan items, as well as an open sushi bar and grill. Guests sitting at the sushi bar will be able to watch chefs make sushi.
Shiki-Sai: Sushi Izakaya is located on the second floor of the Japan Pavilion, with views of World Showcase Lagoon and fireworks shows.
Here is a preview of some of Shiki-Sai’s menu items.
Highlights from the sushi bar include the Kobore Sushi, Tokyo Negi Roll, Funamori, and The Monster Roll.
Kobore Sushi translates to “overflowing sushi.” The dish features negi toro and nakaochi tuna paired with salmon roe and green onion. The Tokyo Negi Roll combines green onion tempura rolled with tuna tataki and topped with jalapeno aïoli, shredded carrot, and sliced jalapeno.
The Funamori features sashimi and sushi arranged on a boat-shaped platter. It’s served with the pomp and the boat procession of the famous Tenjin Matsuri, an Osaka festival honoring Sugawara Michizane, the Japanese god of learning.
Shiki-Sai will also feature small dishes in the style of Japanese Izakaya, a type of casual pub-style restaurant with an emphasis on sharing plates of food while enjoying drinks and conversations with friends. Shiki-Sai’s menu includes Karaage Chicken, Salmon Misoyaki, and Tomato Salad with Avocado.
The grill will serve up various options, including Okonomiyaki, a Japanese savory pancake made with a batter of flour, eggs, and water, filled with shredded cabbage and bacon, and then topped with tangy okonomiyaki sauce, mayonnaise, aonori, bonito flakes, and pickled ginger.
