“The Haunted Mansion” premiere event is underway at Disneyland and since the SAG-AFTRA strike means the stars can’t attend, characters and guests are filling in the available space.
D23 Gold Member & Fan Event
To fill out the red carpet event, Disney invited D23 gold members and fans to attend the premiere.
Posters for the new film line the blockade.
Registered guests were required to provide a photo ID and were not allowed to re-enter if they needed to exit.
Guests were treated to a viewing of the movie. Before the movie, they were invited to the red carpet in New Orleans Square and given private access to the Haunted Mansion attraction. A shuttle was available to go to Disney California Adventure after for a variety of light fare, drinks, and photo locations. The movie is premiering in the Hyperion Theater (meaning no performances are scheduled for Rogers: The Musical). For the premiere, popcorn, drinks, and assorted candies were available.
Mickey & Minnie
Mickey and Minnie walked the red carpet in special Haunted Mansion apparel featuring the iconic purple wallpaper.
Tightrope Girl
One of the iconic figures in the Stretching Room portraits made an appearance — known as Tightrope Girl, she is usually seen in delicate balance with her parasol.
Various villains, including Cruella, Maleficent, and more were also in attendance.
Themed food and beverage are available for purchase at various Disneyland locations.
“The Haunted Mansion” Movie
To promote the new “Haunted Mansion” movie, Zillow has a listing to ostensibly purchase the house for the low price of “Your Soul(s).” The listing features photos, gifs, and videos of the “Haunted Mansion” film set, giving a close-up look at the details that went into the production.
The upcoming “Haunted Mansion” film follows a doctor (Rosario Dawson) and her 9-year-old son (Chase Dillon) moving into a haunted abode in New Orleans. Dawson’s character ends up calling in a priest (Owen Wilson) to exorcise the manor. They also get help from a widowed scientist-turned-failed-paranormal expert (LaKeith Stanfield), a French Quarter psychic (Tiffany Haddish), and a historian (Danny DeVito).
Jamie Lee Curtis portrays Madame Leota, and Jared Leto serves as the Hatbox Ghost. Curtis called the film “modern, fresh, old-fashioned, and scary, but not scary like a monster movie. It’s scary, like a Disney ride, and funny. If you go on that ride, there’s a lot of humor as well as the scary, ghost-y stuff.”
Curtis, Wilson, and Stanfield briefly worked the Haunted Mansion attraction at Disneyland to promote the film.
During the “Studio Showcase Day 1: Celebrate the Magic of Disney and Pixar” panel at the D23 Expo 2022 in Anaheim, Disney debuted the “Haunted Mansion” trailer. Director Justin Simien took to the stage to speak about the project and detail some of the cameos audiences can expect from Winona Ryder, Dan Levy, Hasan Minhaj, and more.
Walt Disney Studios will present a behind-the-scenes look at “Haunted Mansion” during Midsummer Scream — Halloween & Horror Convention in Long Beach, California, at the end of July.
