A brand-new pin collection has debuted during the 68th birthday month of Disneyland: “A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps,” presented by the Walt Disney Archives. This assortment of pins explores the early days of Disneyland Park, along with old camera designs presenting both Walt and some of his most famous projects throughout various stages in his life.
We found these items at World of Disney in the Downtown Disney District, though initial supplies sold out at this location. More may arrive soon, but be advised, all of these items are limited edition.
‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Four Pin Disneyland Set – $125 (Limited Edition of 500)
This set of pins comes in a massive case resembling an old camera, displaying the Archives logo and name of the collection.
One side of the box features the collection’s title, “A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps.”
When the case is opened, images of the early days of Disneyland are strewn about in a collage, including the dedication ceremony and Walt exploring a model of “it’s a small world” later on, in the 60s.
Also inside are four pins: a Disneyland “#1” pin, modeled after Walt Disney’s own Disneyland Cast Member badge, a Disneyland ticket, Mickey Mouse in his conductor outfit standing beside the E.P. Ripley steam engine, and a retro television set playing “Walt Disney’s Disneyland” with Tinker Bell.
‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Jumbo Disneyland Map Pin – $125 (Limited Edition of 500)
Upon opening the case for the jumbo Disneyland map pin, the same interior box art can be seen.
The jumbo pin features Mickey in his conductor outfit as he rides a miniature train. A full illustration of a vintage take on the Disneyland map, with each land’s rides color-coded and grouped, sits behind him.
Below is an overview of each of the smaller, individually-sold pins in this new collection.
There are seven individually-sold pins in this assortment.
Each pin includes a slide-up photo of Walt along with an illustrated “photo” of a Disney character related to that particular moment in Walt’s life.
‘Sleeping Beauty’ ‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Pin – $21.99 (Limited Edition of 1500)
This photo appears to be of Walt from the opening day of Disneyland.
Paired with it is an illustration of Princess Aurora from “Sleeping Beauty,” clad in her blue dress. Sleeping Beauty Castle debuted at Disneyland four years before the actual film.
‘The Sword in the Stone’ ‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Pin – $21.99 (Limited Edition of 1500)
This pin shows Walt standing front and center in a suit and tie.
Paired with him this time is an illustration of Archimedes, the owl from “The Sword in the Stone.”
‘it’s a small world’ ‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Pin – $21.99 (Limited Edition of 1500)
This next pin appears to show Walt inside “it’s a small world.”
The character art recreates a Holland doll from the classic attraction that was first introduced to the public at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
Enchanted Tiki Room ‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Pin – $21.99 (Limited Edition of 1500)
This pin includes a famous image of Walt Disney inside his Enchanted Tiki Room. We have a complete history of Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room available for those interested in greater detail.
The character paired with this photo is none other than the Barker Bird, among a tropical backdrop of flowers and leaves.
‘Pinocchio’ ‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Pin – $21.99 (Limited Edition of 1500)
While not the exact picture, D23 says this photo shoot with the maquettes from “Pinocchio” contains “the earliest known still photograph in color” of Walt.
The character portrait included for this pin is Jiminy Cricket, Pinocchio’s fairy-ordained conscience.
The Florida Project ‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Pin – $21.99 (Limited Edition of 1500)
The image here shows Disney presenting his proposal for a sprawling development in Central Florida, with a larger version of Disneyland, an airport, major headquarters and showcase venues for American industry leaders, and an Experimental Prototype Community of Tomorrow (E.P.C.O.T.).
Mickey Mouse stands in classic attire, proudly showcasing Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom. Walt would not live to see his Florida Project completed, and while it is vastly different from his original plans, it still serves as a testament to his memory.
‘Fantasia’ ‘A Walk in Walt’s Footsteps’ Pin – $21.99 (Limited Edition of 1500)
The final pin explores the creation of “Fantasia” in 1940.
In this photo, Disney can be seen sitting on a couch as he reviews background paintings for the experimental musical anthology film that pushed the boundaries of animation and special effects at the time.
Sorcerer Mickey from “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” segment of “Fantasia” makes an appearance as the last character photo.
