The Walt Disney World Monorail will open late on Friday, July 14, for routine maintenance. Disney said in the announcement that the Monorail will be open by approximately 10:00 a.m.
Walt Disney World Monorail Delay
The Walt Disney World Resort and Express Monorail usually open 30 minutes before Magic Kingdom opens and close one hour after the park closes.
The EPCOT Monorail usually opens 30 minutes before the park opens and stops two hours after it closes.
Here is Disney’s full announcement regarding the delayed opening:
Walt Disney World Monorail Transportation will have a delayed opening this Friday, July 14, to accommodate routine maintenance.
We anticipate that all monorail beams – EPCOT, Resorts and Express to Magic Kingdom – will be open by approximately 10am.
Guests may use our existing boat transportation to reach Magic Kingdom. We will also offer bus transportation that will stop at each location along the Resort Monorail beam: The Transportation & Ticket Center, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort, Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa, Magic Kingdom Park and Disney’s Contemporary Resort.
During this delayed opening, we will offer direct bus service to EPCOT from Disney’s Contemporary Resort, Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort and Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa.
This is not related to the recent bill allowing the Florida Department of Transportation to inspect the Walt Disney World Monorail system.
Transportation and Ticket Center
The Transportation and Ticket Center acts as a gateway to Magic Kingdom, and can also transport guests to EPCOT. It’s where all guests with cars must park before getting on a Monorail or ferryboat to reach Magic Kingdom.
Ahead of Walt Disney World’s 50th anniversary in 2021, the Transportation and Ticket Center was given an all-new color scheme of EARidescent blue and gold. This included repainting the entrance archways to the Monorail and ferryboat stations, which were previously purple and teal.
The Walt Disney World Monorail signs at the TTC were recently spruced up to better match the refurbished Monorails. At night, we even discovered that the mini Monorails have undercarriage lights like their life-size counterparts.
In addition to updating signs and archways, Disney removed the gates featuring characters, opening up the space of the Transportation and Ticket Center.
The TTC’s new color scheme matched the 50th anniversary decorations, as well as the updated Walt Disney World entrances and Magic Kingdom toll plaza. Blue and yellow road signs are also replacing the resort’s outdated purple road signs.
