You’re Not Alone — Everyone’s Still Confused About This Genie+ Change in Disney World

Just when we thought that we were getting the hang of things and had a good system going with Genie+ and how to use it, Disney went and announced that it would be changing.

Have you used Genie+?

Now that we’ve had some time to get used to the updates, we know a little bit more about what we can expect from the new system. And, if you’re still wondering how you’re going to manage when you use it on your next trip — we’re here to help.

As of June 27th, Disney World’s Genie+ system is now a per-park, per-day service, meaning that the price will depend on which park you’re visiting, and you can select between skipping the lines for a single day or multiple days. Just like the old system, Genie+ is subject to availability, and the prices will vary.

So far, we’ve noticed that Genie+ may cost a little more in Magic Kingdom on any given day versus Disney’s Animal Kingdom, though we’ll continue to keep our eyes out for changes.

During our visit to Disney World on June 27th, we tested out some of the new changes. Here’s a look at the Genie+ availability on June 28th, 2023.

Park-specific Pricing

With the new changes, you buy the service based on which park you’ll be using it in. You can buy it for any of the four parks, but the price for each park is different. If you’re planning to Park Hop, you’ll need to buy the multi-park option. We originally thought there was going to be a huge problem with this — but it turns out Disney just solved a major problem instead.

Disney will NOT sell you the multi-park option if Genie+ is sold out in ANY park. So if Genie+ sells out in Animal Kingdom, you cannot buy the multi-park option even if you were just planning to visit Magic Kingdom and EPCOT. At first, this seemed like it would be a problem for folks. But then we realized something — with the old Genie+ system, if the service sold out in any park, it was impossible to purchase the service at all — no matter which park you were visiting.

Let’s say Genie+ was sold out only in Magic Kingdom — you wouldn’t be able to buy it for the other three parks. Of course, Disney didn’t share any info with the public about which park would sell out, only that all of Genie+ was sold out. But now, you’ll at least still be able to buy Genie+ for other parks even if it’s sold out at another.

Disney Genie+ allows you to book the Lightning Lane for rides.

During our visit to Disney World on June 28th, we noticed some Genie+ services were less expensive than the past few days. Here’s a look at the Genie+ availability on June 28th, 2023.

Like we saw before, the multi-park Genie+ option was $27 the day before, while the single-park Genie+ price for Magic Kingdom was $27, and Disney’s Hollywood Studios was $24. In the span of 24 hours, the price of Genie+ decreased by $2, but we will continue to monitor the costs.

According to a Cast Member, Disney’s intention with introducing the park-specific pricing is to keep Genie+ as the same system we already know and have been using since 2021 but offer specific prices for each park based on the value of the service there. Since there are more attractions offered with Genie+ in Magic Kingdom than in EPCOT, it’s more valuable in Magic Kingdom. When Genie+ had a single, set price, it was kind of unfair for it to cost the same in both parks.
