The Red Coconut Club at Universal CityWalk Orlando is now donning a Halloween costume, of sorts, as it has been transformed into Revenge of the Dead Coconut Club for Halloween Horror Nights 32. We were able to get a first look at this year’s iteration of the Dead Coconut Club on August 30; it can be experienced by Universal Orlando Resort Annual Passholders starting at 6:00 p.m. on August 31 before opening to all guests at 9:00 p.m.
Revenge of the Dead Coconut Club
The Universal Classic Monsters have taken over the Red Coconut Club. This year’s overlay is themed around Monstergram Pictures’ latest B-movie: “Target Planet Coconut.”
A classic red truck with smoke emitting from underneath it is parked outside the venue. Illustrations of some of the Universal icons are hung on the exterior of the venue — Gillman, The Mummy, and Frankenstein’s Monster are just some of the characters that appear, all wearing 3D glasses.
Guests are greeted by the “Monstergram Pictures” logo upon entering. The year “1931” is printed above the logo, a reference to the release year of “Dracula,” the first Universal Classic Monsters film.
Busts of Frankenstein’s Monster and Dracula appear on both sides of the logo. They’re wearing 3D glasses, further contributing to this overlay’s retro feel.
To the left of the Frankenstein’s Monster’s bust is what appears to be a retro rolling camera dolly. There’s also a poster for “Revenge of the Red Planet,” a reference to the Monstergram Pictures overlay of All Hallows Eve Boutique from earlier this year.
Further inside the venue, there’s a collection of Universal Classic Monsters photos framed inside of a larger, nine-sectioned frame. There are a ton of cool things for eagle-eyed viewers to catch in this section: film reels, The Wolfman’s director’s chair, and stills from some of the Universal Classic Monsters movies, among other things.
Moving past this setup, guests encounter a bar area where spooky cocktails and mocktails will be served. Retro B-movie posters, props, and prosthetics are visible on the walls around the bar.
A trunk that’s seen better days is to the left of the bar, and there’s a label on it that reads “art department.” There are a few tentacles on top of the trunk holding what appear to be poco grande glasses.
There are more retro B-movie props and decor in a nearby seating area. There are large cutouts depicting mountains throughout the area, these sections inhabited by large alien figures.
A speckled black fabric lines the seating area walls, giving the room a space-like appearance. Retro sci-fi props adorn the walls.
The tentacles appear on another one of the props in this area, this time holding classic vinyl records.
Above another bar are more retro sci-fi props, this time depicting a spaceship in addition to more mountains.
The space theming extends into a nearby seating area. This section is located near a staircase leading to the Red Coconut Club’s upstairs, an area not yet open to the public.
Next to the staircase is another set of Universal Classic Monsters props and images chock full of references to the franchise. Directors chairs for “The Mummy” and “The Monster” are here in addition to promotional images and stills from each of their films.
