There are a few reasons why you might need to LEAVE the Disney World parks in the middle of the day.
Maybe you’ve got a dining reservation at one of the resorts or Disney Springs that you can’t miss. Maybe you’ve got some little ones who need a nap at the hotel and some cool-down time at the pool. Or maybe, you’re not prepared to stick it out when bad weather starts rolling your way!
We typically encourage our readers to pack rain gear for the parks, no matter what time of year you’re visiting, and keep on trucking when it starts storming. Usually, the wait times will go down as people file out of the park to avoid getting wet, and you’ll still be able to have some (slightly damp!) fun. That’s why it’s important to be prepared! And part of being prepared means having the right tools at your disposal.
You’ve got to pack those ponchos, rain jackets, and umbrellas, but besides all that, it’s important to have a great weather app on your phone — preferably one with radar. (Sometimes Apple’s Weather app just doesn’t cut it!) So today we’re rounding up our picks for some of the BEST weather apps to help save your day in Disney World.
The Weather Channel
First up, we’ve got The Weather Channel app. This app proclaims that it is the “world’s most accurate forecaster” so you should be set up for success! You can get The Weather Channel app for free and it comes with radar, weather alerts, weather news, allergen breakdowns, and more.
Forecasts are available for up to 15 days in advance and you can personalize your weather alerts so you get notified of things that are most important to you. Also, you can check a 15-minute forecast for rain intensity up to 7 hours in the future. That’s handy for knowing if you’re dealing with some sprinkles or a serious downpour.
WeatherBug — Weather Forecast
One of the other more popular free apps is WeatherBug! It offers local radar, a live map, and alerts for weather in your area. You can sort forecasts by current, hourly, or 10-day, and you can also check out 18 different weather maps, including those for Doppler radar, lightning, wind, temperature, pressure, humidity, and more.
This app shares specific data on lightning forecasts, hurricane predictions, and fire risks, as well as winter weather. (Though that last one isn’t as much of a risk in Disney World!)
AccuWeather: Weather Alerts
Finally, let’s talk about AccuWeather! This app is highly rated and like the others, it comes with multi-day forecasts and Doppler radar so you can follow the storms as they approach. You can get it for free as well.
You can set up alerts for bad weather coming your way, and the app even comes with satellite imagery so that you can watch the weather patterns from space! Current conditions maps will show real-feel temperatures and conditions in your area, which will be very helpful when deciding what to wear on your theme park day.
So there you go — three different options that could help you out significantly during your Disney World vacation! We’ll keep you updated with any major weather alerts like hurricanes as well, so stay tuned to DFB. We’ve got all the best tips for your Disney World vacation!
