Nature Is Healing — A Popular EPCOT Snack Is FINALLY BACK!

SOUND THE ALARMS — a beloved EPCOT snack is BACK!

EPCOT

For those who might not remember the good old days, cronuts used to be a BIG thing in EPCOT. These special pastries are a mixture between croissants and donuts (often covered in cinnamon sugar) and they are a masterpiece in sweet goodness. They had disappeared from EPCOT, but now it looks like nature is HEALING.

As we mentioned above, cronuts aren’t new to Disney World and they certainly aren’t new to EPCOT. They once lived on the menu at Refreshment Port, and we even got unique versions during some of EPCOT’s festivals.

We later saw them pop up at the Taste Track booth, and then they made their way to the Electric Umbrella. We also saw a version of the cronut appear at Joffrey’s, Everglazed Donuts & Cold Brew in Disney Springs, and most recently, we saw a cronut offered during Disney World’s 50th Anniversary. What a journey these things have had.

As you can tell from their complicated past, the more regular appearance of cronuts in EPCOT ended quite some time ago and we had been yearning for their return. And now, it seems the Disney gods have heard our requests!

On August 16th, Disney made a surprising and fantastic announcement — CRONUTS ARE BACK IN EPCOT, this time over at Connections Cafe!

REJOICE!

They appear here in their more “formal” name — the Croissant Doughnut — and are priced at $5.79. Disney has said that this is the “new home” for the Croissant Doughnut so we’re really hoping it doesn’t disappear on us again!

Hello Beautiful

Now, let’s talk about the taste. The doughnut is covered in cinnamon sugar, is large (hello good portion size), and is delightfully flaky (as it should be!).

Beautiful

That’s all good news. So what about the bad news? Well, it was really (REALLY) tough to tear apart, and sadly not as sweet as our reporter would have liked, even though it had all of that cinnamon sugar on top. For some, that might be a plus, but our reporter could have used a stronger level of sweetness here — so it’ll really just depend on your own taste buds.

Cronut Time

Overall, we’d say that if you generally like cronuts (or the idea of them, if you’ve never had one before), are looking for a pastry to go with your coffee, or want something that is sweet but not overly so, this could be a great match.

If, on the other hand, you’ve got a strong sweet tooth that needs buckets of sugar to be satisfied, hate cinnamon sugar, or want something that’s softer, then you might want to go for a different treat.

A Peek Inside

Something like a Liege Waffle (especially with the whipped cream at Connections Eatery), a caramel-covered snack from Karamell-Kuche (Germany pavilion), or one of the many snacks from Les Halles Boulangerie Patisserie (France) might be more up your alley!
