Complications in the entertainment industry seem as though they are far from over.

What started earlier in the year as a writer’s strike quickly turned into a strike order issued by the Screen Actors Guild and the American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (SAG-AFTRA). On Since July 13th, actors have joined in on the strike after the Alliance of Motion Pictures was reportedly unwilling to agree to a union negotiation. Now, things have progressed a bit, and Disney is impacted by this strike in more ways than in just film production.

The Los Angeles Times reported that over 3,000 union members of both the Writers Guild and SAG-AFTRA rallied in Burbank, California on August 22nd — a short distance away from Disney Headquarters — in support of Hollywood’s striking actors.

Several well-known actors joined in the rally by standing on the back of a flatbed truck. Among them were Kerry Washington, Martin Sheen, and Ron Perlman.

This rally marked the 40th consecutive day of the actor’s strike, and the 113th day since the writers’ walkout. The unions were joined by the Los Angeles County Federation of Labor, the International Alliance of Theatrical Stage Employees, AFL-CIO, the Teamsters, the Laborers’ International Union of North America (LiUNA) and the Directors Guild of America.

The strikes have reportedly cost the Los Angeles economy as much as $3 billion as production work has idled and small businesses that depend on the success of the industry have struggled throughout the summer.
