OPENING DELAYED for the Brightline Train Coming to the Orlando Airport

We’ve got some BAD NEWS for those who were hoping to get on the Brightline Train to Orlando International Airport soon.

Brightline had previously indicated that they planned to start service between Orlando and South Florida in the second quarter of 2023. Later, tickets for the train service were put on sale for dates beginning September 1st, but Brightline suggested that service could begin sooner and those earlier tickets would be added to the site once they got closer to the inaugural rides. But now it seems things have CHANGED.

According to a Twitter/X post from Brightline, they will be DELAYING the launch of their service between Orlando and South Florida. In the post, Brightline noted that they “will not be launching service to Orlando from Sept. 1-6.”

Those who booked a ride between Orlando and South Florida during those dates should have received an email notifying them of the change and they should have been provided with rebooking options. According to The Orlando Sentinel, those who had tickets for the September 1st-5th time period were notified that along with refunds, “they would get upgrade credits for Premium class and a 35 percent discount for Avis rental cars for the dates of the cancelled tickets.”

In a follow-up post on Twitter/X, Brightline shared “We sincerely apologize for any inconvenience caused and thank you for your understanding as we strive to provide you with the highest standard of service. Please visit the Help Desk on our website with questions or to connect with us.”

A new launch date has not yet been shared, but Brightline did say “We are looking to announce an opening date soon and look forward to welcoming you on Brightline!”

According to The Orlando Sentinel, the delay in the start of service may be by as much as 2 weeks. Though Brightline’s website shows “no trains” for various dates in early September, it appears tickets between Orlando and South Florida are on sale for dates starting on September 15th. Brightline has indicated, however, that the service could start sooner and those whose tickets were canceled will get the first notification.

In a statement, Brightline has said “We’re working through the final stages of certification and crew testing but it’s apparent that we won’t hit our opening weekend as planned (Sept 1-5)…Knowing it’s a holiday weekend, we want to give guests as much time as possible to adjust their travel plans.”

We’ll continue to keep an eye out for more updates on the situation and let you know what we find. In the meantime, click here to see whether a Brightline station is still coming near Disney World. And stay tuned for more news.
