PHOTOS: New San Fransokyo Square Signs Go Up, Travel Posters Appear, and More at Disney California Adventure
With San Fransokyo Square officially opening in just four days on August 31, more final decorative touches are being added throughout the land at Disney California Adventure. Let’s take a look.
New San Fransokyo Signs Installed
These new signs can be found near Ghirardelli Soda Fountain and Chocolate Shop, hanging over the archway that previously had signs for Pacific Wharf Canning Co.
Here’s a look at the previous sign.
The new sign takes on the same color scheme as the previous one, sticking to white and navy blue. The side looking toward Ghirardelli says “San Fransokyo Square.”
Looking from the Ghirardelli side, the sign also says “San Fransokyo Square,” but it’s written in Japanese characters.
This side also has the same navy and white color scheme.
Cables Added to Torii Gate Bridge
Now that the final international orange panels have been installed on each of the torii gates, cables are being added to run string lights from the bridge’s railings to the tops of the gates.
You can see that the cables are anchored underneath the top of each torii gate, and run all the way down to the structural bars above the walkway.
Once complete, the bridge will look more as it does in the above concept art. The string lights will run down from the tops of the torii gates, and a sign reading “San Fransokyo Square” will be added to the ends of the bridge.
It appears as though all of the cables have been installed, and now all they need are the lights themselves.
The bridge is still blocked off by construction walls while the last remaining touches are added. A cherry picker is still present in the area as well, which you can see on the far right.
New Travel Posters Near Baymax Bathrooms
New painted travel posters have also made an appearance on the back wall near the Baymax bathrooms in San Fransokyo Square.
There are five travel posters in total, with each one advertising a different aspect of San Fransokyo.
This one advertises Pelican Island.
All of the posters feature the same footer, advertising “Wharfside Travel Agency” alongside some sort of tagline. This one reads, “New experiences right in your back yard.”
This poster highlights San Fransokyo.
It features a bus traveling through the center, with the two sides of the Torii Gate Bridge in the foreground and background.
The tagline for this poster reads, “Fall in love with San Fransokyo all over again.”
The last poster on this wall features San Fransokyo at night, and says “Rediscover San Fransokyo.
There are also two more travel posters on the back wall when heading toward Cars Land.
Both advertise San Fransokyo. This poster shows a more abstract take on the city, with the Torii Gate Bridge in the sky, and the never-ending loop of cars traveling below.
The tagline here is the same as one of the earlier posters, “New experiences right in your back yard.”
This sign includes a painted house, dressed in dark reds, oranges and purples.
The tagline here is, “Rediscover San Fransokyo.”
San Fransokyo Square
Pacific Wharf will officially become San Fransokyo Square on August 31, when the rest of the venues will open and the Torii gate bridge will potentially be complete.
Pre-existing Pacific Wharf locations like the Cappuccino Cart and The Bakery Tour will now be decked out in street art and colorful banners celebrating the “Big Hero 6” team. Baymax Bread will also be available at the Boudin Bread Cart.
Guests will be able to interact with Hiro and Baymax (who will talk) outside the Hamada Bot Shop. Nearby will be the San Fransokyo Maker’s Market, a storefront stocked with unique apparel, homewares, and more featuring Baymax and friends.
Across from the Maker’s Market, vending machines will offer golden medallions featuring Baymax and other San Fransokyo images.
Pacific Wharf Café is being transformed into Aunt Cass Café, the second bakery café operated by Hiro’s aunt. It will serve soups in freshly baked Boudin sourdough bread bowls and more inspired by Japanese cuisine.
An old fishing net tannery across from the café is Rita’s Turbine Blenders, a giant drink dispenser offering margaritas and icy beverages. This refreshment stand is owned by and named after the repair technician who maintains the floating wind turbine, resembling a giant koi fish, that sits atop the structure. Be sure to read our recent Rita’s Turbine Blenders review.
New “Big Hero 6”-inspired items were added to the menus of Cocina Cucamonga Mexican Grill and Lucky Fortune Cookery, which serves a Baymax macaron. The Port of San Fransokyo Cervecería with Karl Strauss drinks and pinwheel chips also recently opened.
During Oogie Boogie Bash, Yokai will appear in San Fransokyo Square.
Are you excited to experience San Fransokyo Square once it officially opens later this week? What are you most excited to experience in the rethemed land? Let us know in the comments.

Updated Dining Reservation System Launches on the Disneyland Resort App
The updated dining reservation system that will make booking much easier for guests has officially launched at Disneyland Resort via the Disneyland app.
Updated Dining Reservation System Experience on the Disneyland App
Walt Disney World and Disneyland Resort are both updating how guests can book their dining reservations online and through the resorts’ official apps. Let’s check out the new user experience and reservation process.
You begin by hitting the plus button at the center bottom menu. Then, you can choose “Check Dining Availability” in the multi-item menu that appears.
Then, you’ll go to a new page where you’ll be asked to select your party size, your preferred reservation date, and the time you’d like to dine. The options for time preference are:
- All Day
- Morning Before 12 p.m.
- Afternoon from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
- Evening After 4 p.m.
This dining reservation system update allows guests to see all available reservation slots for dining for their chosen location, date, and time frame. Previously, only a few reservation slots would be shown, and the times would be divided between breakfast, brunch, lunch and dinner, and some hour-by-hour options.
Once you reach the results page, you can adjust your search options by tapping “Edit” to change your party size, date, and time, or further specify your filter options by tapping “Filters” on the left.
Once you choose a restaurant and reservation time, you’ll be taken to the Reservation Detalis page, where you can confirm the details, and add any dietary and accessibility requests your or your party need.
After confirming, you’ll get to the Order Summary page, where you’ll set your contact information and put down a credit card to secure your reservation.
What do you think of this updated reservation system? Do you prefer it to its previous version? Let us know what you think in the comments.
