Work is starting to wrap up on the guest floor railings overlooking the lobby of Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort & Spa. This project began in June with construction walls and vehicles taking up much of the resort’s lobby space. The lobby itself will also be remodeled, but not until next year.

Some of the white scrim has been removed from the guest floors, indicating work on those railings is now complete.
We have seen crew members repainting the railings and columns, sometimes removing paneling.
During our most recent visit, a crew member was in one of the two lifts to work on the upper floors.
Most of the lobby is currently unavailable and surrounded by construction walls. Some seating and the grand piano are in a free area at one end. Behind the construction walls, tarps protect the resort’s iconic giant birdcage and plywood protects the floor.
The Bibbidi Bobbidi Boutique at Disney’s Grand Floridian Resort has yet to reopen since closing in March 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It had only been operating for a few months, having first opened in August 2019.
White scrim remains around the two short railings on either side of these elevators.
We’ve noticed this water damage on the ceiling of this area has not been fixed.
White scrim has been removed from the entire top floor but remains and floors three and four.
While construction takes place, the main elevator in the center of the lobby is closed.
We saw this pile of broken, discarded rectangular paneling within the construction site.
When we circled back to the lobby before leaving, both lifts were raised with crew members inside.
On the first floor, signs reading, “Please Pardon Our Appearance” block the elevator entrance.
On the second floor, there are two more of these signs, and a black tarp hung in front of the elevator doors.
During exterior construction, the lobby exit that leads directly to the Beach Pool and “Alice in Wonderland” water play area is closed.
It is blocked with temporary stanchions — although the rope of one of these stanchions wasn’t across the door when we stopped by on Tuesday.
For now, guests can access the courtyard via the exit near Grand Floridian Café.
A sign by the Grand Floridian Café points guests to the walkway they can use.

Outside, construction walls run around the building. Here, temporary green fencing blocks two tunnels through the walls, and scaffolding arches over them.
A-frame signs outside help direct guests to around the resort while it’s under construction.
We could see tarps over some of the guest room windows upstairs.
In addition to all the visible refurbishment projects, Disney has also been sprucing up guest room interiors.
A lot of new scaffolding has been erected against the building across from the pool courtyard.
Behind the scaffolding, we could see more signs of work inside, like plywood over a balcony door.
The scaffolding runs along this wall and wraps around the tower on the corner of the building.
Plywood protects the tower roof from the scaffolding. Blue scrim is wrapped around the platforms where crew members will be working.
It looks like more tarps are behind the windows and doors here. We also spotted some painter’s tape on the wall. And a bird enjoying the shade.
The whole area smelled faintly of paint.
Scaffolding no longer covers the wall above Gasparilla Island Grill, which has remained open but guests have had to enter through a construction wall tunnel.
A temporary green fence is at the end of the construction walls on this side, where crew members enter the construction site.
Planters have also been placed next to the temporary fence.
