The EPCOT 40th anniversary display featuring Mickey and Minnie in their retro rainbow outfits has been removed from the Creations Shop in World Celebration.
EPCOT 40th Anniversary Display Disappears
The display was above the coolers, against a colorful backdrop, but has since vanished.
The backdrop remains, with a white triangle and a semi-circle decoration in front of it. A spectrum of colors are also still featured.
An “EPCOT” sign that matches the backdrop has been installed as a replacement for the display.
Previously, Mickey and Minnie were in silver outfits with rainbow accents, which they once wore in EPCOT decades ago. “Celebrating 40 Years of Imagination” was on the backdrop behind them.
The park’s 40th anniversary was officially on October 1, 2022.
Creations Shop opened in 2021 as a replacement for MouseGear as EPCOT’s flagship store. MouseGear had closed in early 2020. The new store is part of an ongoing re-imagining of EPCOT featuring updated signage in the park and on the parking plaza, as well as updated pavilion logos.
The former Future World was split into three “neighborhoods”: World Celebration, World Discovery, and World Nature. World Showcase retains its name and boundaries as the fourth. The entire center of the park is being updated, with CommuniCore Hall, CommuniCore Plaza, and Dreamers Point currently under construction.
Journey of Water Inspired by Moana is also coming soon, in World Nature but essentially directly across from the upcoming World Celebration spaces. Cast Member previews have already begun for this walk-through trail, indicating a grand opening isn’t far away. This experience will utilize interactive water features accompanied with sights and sounds from the animated film “Moana,” all to help illustrate the importance of water.
Disney originally planned for a major overhaul of Spaceship Earth, with the attraction scheduled to close for two years in 2020, though this was delayed due to COVID-19 and there has been little news since.
