Okay, everyone stay calm. IT’S REALLY HAPPENING!
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is starting in Disney World, spooky decor is up in Magic Kingdom, and even pumpkin coffee has returned to the Most Magical Place on Earth. On top of all of that, we’re ready to eat ALL the Halloween things because some fall snacks have arrived in Magic Kingdom. Speaking of eating all the things…
Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party is a special ticketed Magic Kingdom event that takes place on select nights from August 11th through November 1st.
Although you’ll find that some Halloween treats are exclusive to those attending the party, others are available during regular park hours. One particular snack that we had some high hopes for is available during regular park hours, so let’s go check it out and see if it’s worth it!
To sample this NEW snack, we went to Liberty Square Market to try the Black Velvet Whoopie Pie for $5.79.
This is a spooky take on the classic whoopie pie (which we’re already big fans of) and is made with a black velvet cookie with buttercream, sprinkles, and a sugar spider. Just look at that spider! Ordinarily we wouldn’t want to find a spider on our food, but this one is far too adorable to be upset with.
Let’s start with the good news — this is such a fun Halloween treat. The black, green, and purple coloring, along with the spider, gives it big points in terms of spooky vibes. And we think that thanks to the design, kids are going to LOVE this.
The portion size is also good, making it a good snack for sharing.
Now, let’s get to the not-so-great news. We’ve had some AMAZING whoopie pies in Disney World. The Carrot Cake Cookie (now called a Whoopie Pie) is a must in Hollywood Studios, and the Peanut Butter Whoopie Pie in EPCOT at Sunshine Seasons totally BLEW US AWAY. So we were really crossing our fingers for a win here too. Yes, it’s just black velvet and buttercream but still — it could be our new favorite whoopie pie right? It had potential! But unfortunately, this one didn’t totally blow us away.
This is SUPER sugary (again, we think kids will love it). The cake is black velvet but we really didn’t get any taste from it except…well…sugar. The buttercream filling was fine but it also just tasted like…you guessed it — sugar. We’re going to need to get our dentist on speed dial over here.
Now, there’s nothing wrong with a basic, sugary treat and if that is what you’re looking for, then you might LOVE this. But we do wish it had hit us with some other kind of flavor than just sugar.
We also think this isn’t necessarily the best snack for a hot day. A nice ice cream cone would probably be a better option to cool you down. It’s quite messy too, so watch out.

Overall, we love the design of this treat, so if you’re looking for something super sweet and spooky (and kid-friendly) this is a good pick. But if you want something with a punch of flavor (other than sugar) or something to cool you down, this might be a skip.
There’s more where that came from, though! Make sure to check out ALL of the treats available at the party before you go and stay tuned for our reviews!
