The Disney World Mistake You’ll Make in September

And just like that, we’re almost to September!

It’s fall!

September can be a very popular time to visit Disney World, as many are seeking lower crowds after schools are back in session as well as a respite from the heat that summer at Disney World brings. While a September Disney World vacation is definitely magical no matter which way ya play it, there are a few things to consider so that your September vacation isn’t dampened. Have no fear, DFB is here!

The whole team here at DFB has made mistakes while vacationing at Disney World. These six mistakes are ones that you should definitely avoid throughout the month of September. Let’s talk about it!

1. Underestimating Hurricane Season

Hurricane season takes place throughout late summer and early fall in Disney World, and September is the month that seems to get hit particularly hard. According to the National Hurricane Center, the peak of this year’s hurricane season lands on September 10th. If your Disney World visit aligns with inclement weather, you can check out our list of Disney World’s cancellation policies by clicking here.

Don’t underestimate hurricane season!

Play it safe and plan ahead!

2. Being Unprepared for Early Fall Breakers

While yes, schools typically are back in session by September, many people fail to realize that a LOT of schools started back in early August. So, by the end of September, there are a few folks that are already enjoying fall break.

People will already be on fall break!

Crowds can ebb and flow throughout September, and part of the reasoning behind this leads us to our next point…

3. Don’t Forget About Labor Day!

The beginning of September might be particularly busy as folks might flock in to celebrate Labor Day Weekend. This year, Labor Day falls on September 4th.

If you can help it, we might avoid visiting Disney World on this weekend, unless you really don’t mind the crowds!

4. Not Planning for Halloween

Halloween starts in August at Disney World, in case you were unaware! Yep, September is full-blown spooky season. Not packing fall-themed outfits might put a damper on your vacation if you’re posing in front of a spooky-looking Main Street, U.S.A. in your red, white, and blue gear hoping to capture end-of-summer photos.

Yep, fall is here.

If you can, we’d recommend purchasing a ticket to Mickey’s Not-So-Scary Halloween Party during your September visit! There are still some September tickets available. If you’re not planning on attending a Halloween Party but will be visiting Magic Kingdom during the day, make sure your plans account for the fact that Magic Kingdom closes at 6PM on party nights.

We were there for the first night of the halloween party, and we’re sharing all our tips in the video you can watch right here!

5. Thinking That Fall at Disney World Means Fall Weather

Yeah, we just said that fall is underway at Disney World. However, it sure won’t feel like fall throughout your trip.

Happy Halloween even though it feels like summer!

Anyway, you should probably still dress like it’s summer, hydrate like it’s summer, and apply sunscreen like it’s summer. If you’re headed to Mickey’s Not So Scary Halloween Party, please make sure your Halloween costumes won’t cause you to melt.

6. Forgetting Important Changes

There are SO MANY big changes coming to Disney World in September! Don’t believe us? Check out this list:

  1. Start of Hispanic Heritage Month might bring special snacks!
  2. Bruno appears in parades starting September 15th
  3. Mirabel meet-and-greet starts on September 15th

  5. Destination D23 on September 9th and 10th

  10. Pluto’s Pumpkin Pursuit Starts September 8th
