The original actors who played Joel and Ellie in “The Last of Us” video games will reprise their roles with newly recorded voice lines for Halloween Horror Nights 2023, according to GamesRadar.
Original ‘The Last of Us’ Actors Re-Record Voice Lines for Halloween Horror Nights House
Universal Orlando’s Lora Sauls spoke to GamesRadar’s sister publication, SFX Magazine, and shared that Universal was able to get Baker and Johnson back in the booth to re-record dialogue for the haunted house that will be at both Universal Orlando Resort and Universal Studios Hollywood.
We got to use the voiceover actors from the video game. We did voiceover recordings with them and they re-recorded our entire dialogue for our haunted house. So we were very, very excited to work with both Troy and Ashley on the re-recording of our haunted house dialogue.

In addition to having the original Joel and Ellie re-record dialogue for the haunted house, Universal also worked directly with Naughty Dog to bring the video game to life. Sauls also shared that Neil Druckmann, director of both “The Last of Us” games and co-creator and co-writer for the TV adaptation, specifically requested Pittsburgh to be used as the setting for the house.
When working with Neil and team, they actually said to us, “can we lean into the Pittsburgh part of the first video game?” And we were like, “Sure.” We later found out that that graphic in the Pittsburgh area got so many accolades online, [and] we understood why Neil wanted us to lean into Pittsburgh.
Fans of the game will have to keep their eyes peeled for details pulled straight from the game, like a “weapons table” where players would pick up and upgrade gear from the games, and masks for Clickers and Bloaters “that are absolutely beautiful and identical to what you saw in that video game.”
Halloween Horror Nights
Halloween Horror Nights is an annual hard-ticket event held each fall at Universal Orlando Resort. It takes place on select nights between September and October (and sometimes November). This year’s event will be held from September 1 through October 31.
Admission is separate from regular theme park admission. You do not need theme park admission to attend Halloween Horror Nights, but if you have a day ticket, it allows you to stay in the park to wait rather than exit and re-enter when the event opens. Tickets are currently available.
HHN 32 will feature 10 haunted houses, 5 scare zones, and the return of Nightmare Fuel with a new stage show. The full lineup has been revealed, which you can check out here.
Guests can purchase Express Passes to skip the regular queue. RIP Tours offers a guided experience, with private and non-private options available.
Meanwhile in Hollywood, it will take place on select nights from September 7 through October 31 this year. Tickets are on sale now.

In addition to “The Last of Us” haunted house, the event will feature a house based on Netflix’s “Stranger Things 4,” as well as other houses like “Universal Monsters: Unmasked,” “Chucky: Ultimate Kill Count,” and “The Exorcist: Believer.” There are still three houses that have yet to be announced.
