Y’all. We have tried some questionable snacks and drinks in Disney World in our time.

Remember that drink that had an actual octopus tentacle in it? We ate that. We even ate Poop Candy back when that was a thing in Disney’s Animal Kingdom (and we have no regrets). We’ve had some unique ice cream flavors, including one that featured bugs. Well, we just ate ANOTHER interesting ice cream flavor — and well, it surprised us.

So if you’ve visited Salt & Straw in Disney Springs, you’ll know this is one ice cream shop that loves to experiment with all kinds of flavors. Well, remember when we told you about the Chocolate Potato Salad Ice Cream flavor? We decided we HAD to try it out, you know, for science!

So we did. We got a single scoop of the Chocolate Potato Salad Ice Cream for $7.25. It’s a spiced mustard ice cream seasoned with paprika, celery seed, and dill, plus potato chip cookies and a ripple of chocolate fudge. Okay, think about it — there’s no way this is any good, right? Well, think again! We were surprised when we took that first bite because, well, IT WAS GOOD?

Yes, everything about this works so well. The ice cream is so creamy, and the potato salad bits don’t really overpower the flavors or make the texture weird. In fact, there’s a bit of a sweet buttery taste that comes across once it’s a little melty that reminded us more of a soggy nilla wafer in banana pudding with just a hint of crunch at times. The rest of the ice cream reminded us of butter pecan ice cream with a ripple of chocolate.

Also, who would have ever thought to put potato chips in ice cream? It’s kinda brilliant because you get that little bit of salty with the sweet. We’re still perplexed: HOW DOES THIS WORK? Salt & Straw is creating ice cream magic, and we are here for it.
