5 NEW Permits Could Be Clues to MAJOR Disney World Changes

Disney is known for making some pretty bold announcements.

Disney World

Back in 2019, Disney announced a new hotel that would be coming to Disney World — Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge. Permits were filed, but Disney quietly stopped making any sort of references to this future hotel. And then… that was it — until now. We have an update on Reflections along with more permits that were recently filed in Disney World!

We’re taking another look at recently filed permits for Disney World to get an idea of what sort of work may be going on around the property — here’s what we found this time around.

Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge

A permit extension requested by Disney back in June has been granted for work at the site of Reflections — A Disney Lakeside Lodge. The Lodge was going to have more than 900 rooms and be a new Disney Vacation Club hotel. It was planned to be built in the former home of Disney’s River Country over by Disney’s Fort Wilderness Campground, and ultimately, we thought Disney had quietly scrapped this project.

But, Disney was recently granted an extension on a permit for work at Reflections. Now, this doesn’t necessarily mean that Disney is going to actually do anything with Reflections or that it is moving forward, it just means they have a little bit of time to decide. Five years more, to be exact. The permit is for work on a specific spot that could ultimately be used as a staging area for construction at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort.

Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground

Speaking of Fort Wilderness, we spotted a new permit for work on one of the cabins at this campground and resort. The description is listed as “general construction,” which means it could really be for just about anything. We do know that Disney has announced 350 refurbished cabins will replace existing ones, but we don’t think that’s what this permit is necessarily for.

Cabin at Fort Wilderness

Disney has shared that the cabins will be “inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling.” They’ll sleep up to six adults and feature a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen, and private patio. Disney also noted further that a select number of cabins will be dog-friendly. We’ll keep an eye on this area for more changes!

EPCOT

It’s no secret that EPCOT is changing, but we found a new permit for work over at Mission: SPACE. This out-of-this-world ride is getting some “general construction” TLC from what we can tell. We recently saw the Earth removed from out front!

Where’d Earth go?

In fact, an additional permit was filed to “provide labor, material, and/or electrical for construction” at Mission: SPACE as well, so it’s possible that there is a bit more work to be done here than meets the eye. We have seen the entrance covered in construction bushes on and off lately, though it hasn’t affected the ride itself. If this construction causes any closures, we’ll be sure to update you.

Hollywood Studios

We’ve been worried about Hollywood Studios lately, with multiple rides being closed for extended periods of time and an entire area of the park seemingly abandoned — looking at you, Animation Courtyard. But, a new permit shows that work could be starting at Star Wars Launch Bay soon. Right now, it’s home to a few meet-and-greets and some Star Wars memorabilia, so we’re not sure what this could mean.

The permit is for “general construction,” so we’ll be on the lookout for any potential work that might be starting in this area of the park.

We’ll keep an eye out for more permit updates that could indicate changes coming to Disney World, so stay tuned to DFB for more!
