7 Rides To AVOID in Disney World Right Now

If you’re anything like us, you tend to check on the wait times ahead of your Disney World trip so that you know what to expect.

Cinderella Castle

It’s good to be prepared for which rides are posting the highest wait times, note any that are consistently low, and decide ahead of time if you think you should buy Genie+. But there’s one important thing that you may not be taking into consideration — ride closures!

We track the average wait times in Disney World each week but this week we wanted to highlight some of the rides that you may want to avoid right now. These are rides that have had LOTS of closures lately, so let’s take a look!

Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway

Looking at the closures over the past week, these are the rides that have closed the most:

  • Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway — closed 17 times over 7 days
  • Slinky Dog Dash — closed 13 times over 8 days
  • Rock ‘n’ Roller Coaster — closed 11 times over 8 days
  • Rise of the Resistance — closed 11 times over 4 days
  • PeopleMover — closed 9 times over 5 days
  • Test Track — closed 8 times over 5 days

Test Track

Something else to note is Pirates of the Caribbean. Although this ride has only closed four times in the past week, the ride closed a total of 56 times over 27 days in August. YIKES.

Pirates of the Caribbean

Notice that many of these rides are in Disney’s Hollywood Studios — a park with several of the most popular rides. Avoiding these rides is not entirely possible, especially if you are only in the park for one day. So what should you do if you notice a ride is closed?

Our biggest tip is to try to ride your must-dos in the morning. If one of your must-ride attractions is on the list above, it makes sense to hop in line in the morning. We’ve seen many rides close in the afternoon and never reopen that day. It is tempting to wait until the evening sometimes since wait times tend to go down later in the day, but it is a risky move.

Also, keep checking the My Disney Experience app to get the latest updates on that ride. It is constantly updating with the latest wait times and the status of the ride will be listed in the app.
