After a three and a half year absence, parking lot trams have returned to Disney’s Hollywood Studios.
Parking Lot Trams at Hollywood Studios
Parking trams have been absent from EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios since March 2020, when tram services were suspended at all four Walt Disney World Parks due to the COVID-19 pandemic. All parks were closed for a short period of time in mid-2020, with tram service eliminated for the sake of physical distancing when Walt Disney World began its phased reopening in July of that year.
However, even as Disney claimed the continued absence was for the health and safety of guests, distancing requirements were removed from attractions and other transportation in June 2021. Mask requirements for transportation were lifted in April 2022. Entertainment and buffet meals returned, too, as Disney ended COVID-19 safety precautions.
Eventually, Disney Parks announced that the services would be returning to Magic Kingdom in December 2021. They also announced parking trams would “be returning to . . . other Walt Disney World theme parks throughout 2022.” Tram service returned to Magic Kingdom on December 19, 2021, and to Disney’s Animal Kingdom on May 27, 2022.
Information regarding the return of trams to EPCOT and Disney’s Hollywood Studios was scarce following the 2021 announcement. Tram service did not return to either park in 2022. Finally, in August 2023, Disney finally announced parking lot trams would return to Disney’s Hollywood Studios and EPCOT in September.
Now, guests can choose to take the tram from their car to the front of Disney’s Hollywood Studios instead of walking.
