A colorful and delicious chocolate sculpture paying homage to Disney and Pixar’s animated film “Coco” is now on display at Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa for the Halloween season — and it’s made out of chocolate.
‘Coco’ Chocolate Sculpture
This delicious décor depicts the Land of the Dead’s many stacked buildings as the backdrop, with molded confectionery figures of Miguel and Dante in his Alebrije form.
Upon taking a closer look, you can appreciate the sheer scale of this sculpture, and no doubt the many hours it took to finesse all of the tiny details.
The figure of Miguel stands on the left side of the display, wearing his red hoodie and jeans from the film. He leans on the guitar belonging to his grandfather Héctor, before it was stolen by his former partner, Ernesto de la Cruz.
Each of the Land of the Dead buildings behind the pair are intricately painted, with each one sporting its own unique décor.
Dante is decorated as his Alebrije form, covered in many bright colors and patterns. In the film, Alebrije serve as guides to the lost souls in the Land of the Dead.
Below their feet stands the marigold bridge, which leads from the living world to the spirit world. Each year on Día de los Muertos, the bridge is constructed and allows for souls whose families remember them fondly to cross over to see their descendants.
Normally, these confectionery displays include a sign that lists all of the various ingredients used to build them; unfortunately, this sign was not present during our visit.
