Walt Disney World has filed a permit for the construction of the 350 new Disney Vacation Club cabins that will replace current cabins at Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground.
The Cabins at Fort Wilderness
The permit contracts Disney’s in-house Buena Vista Construction Company and doesn’t expire until May 18, 2025.
These new Disney Vacation Club cabins are projected to open in 2024 and will be the 17th DVC resort. They were announced in April of this year and Disney released the above concept art. Disney said in the announcement that the proposed cabins “would be built with an eye toward the environment, utilizing the footprint of the existing cabins and taking advantage of more energy-efficient features.”
Design concepts offer a fresh take on the current cabin experience and are inspired by the resort’s idyllic setting, while also paying homage to the resort’s unique culture and heritage through the magic of Disney storytelling. Each proposed, stand-alone cabin offers spacious accommodations, sleeping up to six adults, and features a bedroom, bathroom, living room, full kitchen and private patio. A select number of cabins are also expected to be dog-friendly.
This project is part of a larger update to Disney’s Fort Wilderness Resort & Campground, which also includes the recent refurbishment of Trail’s End Restaurant and Crockett’s Tavern. New composite exterior seating outside Crockett’s Tavern replaced wooden furniture and metal picnic tables.
A new building, likely for Cast Members, is under construction on the former site of Tri-Circle-D Ranch near Pioneer Hall. A new larger Tri-Circle-D Ranch facility opened in June 2020.

Walt Disney World also recently received an extension on a construction permit related to Reflections – A Disney Lakeside Lodge, a Disney Vacation Club resort thought canceled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. However, the extended permit could now be for the construction of the new Fort Wilderness cabins.
