The central hub of Epic Universe will “bring the park back into theme parks,” Universal Destinations & Experiences CEO Mark Woodbury said at the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference on Thursday.
Woodbury didn’t go into many details about the new Universal Orlando Resort theme parks, but mentioned its “four themed lands,” which are each based on a “powerful, trip-driving intellectual property.” Super Nintendo World is confirmed for Epic Universe, while a new Wizarding World of Harry Potter, “How to Train Your Dragon” land, and Universal Monsters land are rumored.
The four lands will surround a central non-IP-based hub, reportedly with celestial theming. Woodbury said the hub will be a “lush landscape” with attractions and food service. He said it will be different from the other lands and “bring the park back into theme parks.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
The comments reflect a recent trend with theme parks to provide more green, open spaces for guests to relax in. This was a major aspect of the Mickey’s Toontown reimagining at Disneyland.
Woodbury also spoke about Epic Universe being Universal’s “most technologically advanced” park.
