At the Bank of America Media, Communications and Entertainment Conference, Mark Woodbury, CEO of Universal Destinations & Experiences, spoke about the upcoming Epic Universe theme park scheduled to open at Universal Orlando Resort in 2025. Woodbury referenced new drone technology will be used at the park.
“It’s the most technologically advanced park we’ve ever done,” Woodbury said. “And that speaks to both the attractions themselves, the next generation of robotics drone technology, all the way through to the guest experience. The full guest journey is really being taken to a whole new level.” (via The Hollywood Reporter)
Woodbury didn’t expand on what the “next generation of robotics drone technology” meant or what it would be used for. It’s been rumored for some time that Universal Studios Florida could introduce a new drone nighttime spectacular, and Universal Orlando Resort was hiring a drone operations manager this spring. Maybe the idea of a drone show has moved from Universal Studios Florida to Epic Universe.
Drones could be used for plenty of other experiences though, especially given the amount of magical theming is expected in Epic Universe.
