A new pin celebrating “Fantasmic!,” the beloved Disney Parks nighttime show that debuted at Disneyland in 1992 and at Walt Disney World Resort in 1998, is now available for purchase at Magic Kingdom.
We found this pin at the Emporium on Main Street U.S.A. in Magic Kingdom at Walt Disney World Resort.
Fantasmic! Pin – $14.99
The pin features Mickey Mouse donning his red robe and blue wizard hat as first seen in “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice” segment of “Fantasia” (1940), the film that serves as the titular and a thematic inspiration of “Fantasmic!”
Standing behind Mickey is the dragon form of Maleficent, the antagonist of “Sleeping Beauty” (1959). The dragon appears among several other villains in the nighttime performance and formerly appeared as a large physical prop in the Disneyland version of the show before catching fire in April 2023. The prop was completely destroyed in the fire and caused Disneyland to put “Fantasmic!” on hiatus through at least Spring 2024, when a new version of the show, sans the dragon, is expected to return. Performances from Queenie and the Jambalaya Jazz Band have occupied the space since the hiatus was announced.
Mickey and the dragon stand against a star-lined moon and above a set of light-blue clouds. The show’s logo is seen in red at the bottom of the pin.
The pin, like all other Disney pins, comes with a Mickey head-shaped backing. This pin was first seen at the 2023 Magic HAP-Pins Pin Trading Event, which occurred at Disney’s Coronado Springs Resort on August 26 this year.
Fantasmic!
“Fantasmic!” first debuted at Frontierland in Disneyland in 1992, with a version opening at the Hollywood Hills Amphitheater in Disney’s Hollywood Studios at Walt Disney World Resort in 1998. A Tokyo DisneySEA rendition of “Fantasmic!” debuted in 2011 but was permanently closed in 2020.
The Disney’s Hollywood Studios version of “Fantasmic!” is the only currently active performance given the aforementioned Disneyland hiatus. The elaborate show contains lighting effects, water features, musical performances, and fireworks. Costumed characters appear on both the permanent set and on floats that traverse the water surrounding the stage. Several Disney films are referenced throughout the show, ranging from Walt Disney-produced classics like “Fantasia” to Disney Renaissance-era favorites like “Beauty and the Beast” to modern Walt Disney Animation Studios hits like “Frozen.” The show ends with a climactic finale that sees a number of Disney protagonists dancing on a black-and-white boat; Mickey is piloting the vessel while wearing his “Steamboat Willie” attire, a reference to the first Mickey Mouse cartoon to ever be released (1928). The entire performance is roughly 29 minutes long.
