GET READY! Disney+ prices are about to increase on October 12th. Ad-free Disney+ will be $13.99/month, while the ad-included option will remain at $7.99/month. Hulu is also seeing a price spike. Streaming with ads stays at $7.99; however, commercial-free Hulu will cost $17.99 monthly. If you’re a bundle household, or want to be, you’ll soon be able to purchase the “premium duo” offer at $19.99/month for Hulu and Disney+’s ad-free streaming. The bundle with ads will remain at $9.99/month.

This decision came about after Disney announced previously that they lost $512 million in their streaming division at the end of their third fiscal quarter in 2023. Bob Iger believes this change will drive subscribers to the “advertising supported service,” stating that 40% of new Disney+ subscribers selected the ad tier option.

FAILURE TO LAUNCH: Disney+ canceled three TV shows that were scheduled to be released on the streaming platform. This seems to be part of their “purge” in an effort to cut costs. Check out which three shows were recently canceled.

  1. Doogie Kamealoha M.D.

After two positively reviewed seasons, Doogie Kamealoha, M.D. was canceled. This was a reboot of the original Doogie Howser, M.D., starring Neil Patrick Harris.

      2. The Spiderwick Chronicles

Announced back in November 2021 on Disney+ Day, Spiderwick Chronicles was going to be a new addition to the streaming platform. The 8-episode first season is, reportedly, finished with production and will likely find another streaming home, since it is owned by Paramount.

3. Nautilus

This whale of a tale was set to be a live-action Captain Nemo show titled Nautilus and has already filmed its 10 episode first season. In an effort to continue cutting costs, this show will not air on Disney+; however, it’s reported that Disney is in talks to find a home for this 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea adaptation.

Disney+ is striving to gain traction while The Walt Disney Company continues to find ways to cut costs.
