Three months after initially being drained and roped off, the bottom of the Cinderella fountain in Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom has finally been repaired and repainted.
Cinderella Fountain
The saga began back on June 13, when one of our reporters noted that the fountain had been drained. It was roped off by June 19 and we reported on its status on June 21.
By June 22, the ropes were gone. There had been no visible work on the fountain — which has four water fountains built into the outer columns — and it hadn’t been refilled. The inside bottom of the fountain was grimy and cracked.
The Cinderella fountain remained that way for months. Above is a photo of the fountain from September 4. The small pool of water inside was from rain. But the inside of the fountain was still as it had been back in June.
Finally, on September 14, we saw that the inside of the fountain had been repaired.
The bottom of the fountain was now gray and had been smoothed.
The next day, the fountain’s interior had been repainted a teal color.
While it looks nicer than it did a few months ago, there is a lot of bubbling in the fresh paint.
As of September 19, the paint job has not been fixed and the fountain has not been refilled with water.
Coins from fountains and waterways throughout Walt Disney World are collected periodically and donated to Make-A-Wish and their Give Kids The World Village. As of May 2022, Disney had donated $30,000 to Make-A-Wish from Walt Disney World fountains and waterways alone.
Disney has also supported Make-A-Wish and the Give Kids The World Village with larger donations, grants, and wish trips over the years. Give Kids The World Village was established in 1986 as a place for wish kids and their families to stay and play when visiting Walt Disney World Resort and other Orlando destinations. Disney Parks, Experiences, and Products Chairman Josh D’Amaro is on the national board of directors for Make-A-Wish America.
A new Disney license plate benefitting Make-A-Wish Central and Northern Florida is rolling out. Since being introduced during the 50th anniversary celebration, sales of the Disney license plate have raised over $2 million for the Make-A-Wish chapter.
