New “Encanto” theming has been added to one of the gondolas that transports guests between several Walt Disney World Resort parks and hotels as part of the Disney Skyliner. The addition of “Encanto” theming to the service was announced in August, and its introduction coincides with the start of Hispanic and Latin American Heritage Month 2023, which is being celebrated throughout the resort from September 15 through October 15.
“Encanto” Theming Added to Disney Skyliner
The gondola itself is a bright orange tone and features decals depicting numerous characters from the 2021 Walt Disney Animation Studios films. One wide window has been covered by a see-through depiction of Bruno standing in front of the vivid blue door of Casita Madrigal. He’s wearing his iconic green ruana as he displays a rat in his hand.
The other window-side of the gondola displays Antonio Madrigal in his bedroom, which he’s transformed into a lush tropical forest inhabited by several species of animals. Pico sits on his shoulder as other toucans fly around the frame. They’re joined by additional birds and butterflies while Chispi the capybara peers over the Disney Skyliner branding.
A decal depicting the Madrigal sisters appears on the window opposite the gondola doors. Mirabel appears with folded arms in front of Luisa, who is displaying her gift of immense strength by flexing her arm. The positioning of the photo makes it look as though Luisa is holding the roof of the gondola up by herself. Isabela appears next to her sisters; she’s manifested some pink flowers to add even more color to the car. The sliding doors of the gondola feature its number, “243,” but contain no “Encanto” theming.
The Disney Skyliner is a transportation system that opened at Walt Disney World Resort in September 2019. The service connects EPCOT to Disney’s Art of Animation Resort and Disney’s Pop Century Resort, with additional stops at Disney’s Riviera Resort and Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort. Guests can also travel to Disney’s Hollywood Studios by switching tracks at Disney’s Caribbean Beach Resort.
“Encanto” joins the long list of Disney properties with representation on the Disney Skyliner. Several films have received themed gondolas, ranging from Disney classics like “Snow White” to acquired franchises like “Star Wars.” Disney Park attractions have even been represented, with Haunted Mansion and Pirates of the Caribbean-themed gondolas being a part of the service.
“Encanto” at Disney Parks
“Encanto” representation has increased throughout Walt Disney World Resort since its initially modest box office showing in late 2021. The film blossomed in popularity after debuting on the Disney+ streaming service that holiday season, with references to the movie growing throughout Walt Disney World parks as a result.
Mirabel started appearing in the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade at Magic Kingdom in 2022, and a permanent meet and greet opened in the Fantasyland section of the park on September 15 of this year. Bruno started appearing in the Disney Adventure Friends Cavalcade on September 15, and more “Encanto” characters could be coming to the resort, as Walt Disney World recently posted a casting call for a Luisa Madrigal performer.
Even more “Encanto” representation may be coming to Walt Disney World in the future. Walt Disney Imagineering presented a potential Tropical Americas-themed overhaul of Dinoland U.S.A. at Disney’s Animal Kingdom Resort at Destination D23 2023, referencing “Encanto” as one of the land’s possible intellectual property tie-ins.
